St Matthew's Church, Blackmoor and Whitehill

St Matthew's Church, Blackmoor and Whitehill St Matthew's Church - for the community of Blackmoor and Whitehill and the surrounding area. The church is open every day for you to visit.

Welcome to the page for St Matthew’s Church, which is located in Blackmoor, one of the most glorious parts of north-east Hampshire and within the South Downs National Park. We serve a much wider area though, encompassing nearby Whitehill as well. You are welcome to come to pray, or to sit quietly and enjoy this sacred space. You can light a candle and request a prayer for a loved one. Our

churchyard is also a beautiful place to visit and enjoy. St Matthew’s is a holy place but it is not just a historic, sacred building. The church is a community of lively and friendly people of all ages who enjoy coming together to worship Jesus Christ, encourage and support one another, grow in faith and serve the community. Our main service is at 9.30am every Sunday and you will find details of other services, activities and events on our website. We especially value the place of children in this church. Please come and join us soon.

We had a very important fire safety talk after the service today. Our churchwarden David gave the talk followed by a demonstration on how to use the fire extinguishers (this one was expired). It was so worthwhile, not only for church but generally. 🔥🧯⛪️✝️

Just on the edge of the parish sits the beautiful Deadwater Valley. Each year, around St Barnabas Day a bower (little shelter) is made by the children of Woodlea Primary School. Revd Amanda was invited to bless the bower and stay for tea and cake this year - along with Gilbert White!

Last year Amanda was licensed as our Priest-in-Charge; on the 14th of May she will become our vicar. Being collated as Vicar is a significant step for the parish because it moves Amanda’s ministry from a contractual arrangement to a permanent, legally secure incumbent status. Collation is the legal process where the bishop formally admits the priest-in-charge to the cure (care) of souls for the whole parish. ✝️🙏

It's World Book Day today and being a Thursday it's also the day I go into St Matthew's CE Primary School to lead collective worship (assembly). What better book to represent than the Bible, widely considered to be the best-selling book of all time! It has estimated sales between 5 and 7 billion! If you couldn't tell, I went dressed as Mary! There were some minions, a few Rapunzels, the BFG and even a dinosaur - a striking reflection on how the bible is for everyone regardless of where you are or where you have come from! What joy I witnessed today at school - I pray you also find that childlike joy in your day today.
