Here in UK we barely know what it is to be persecuted - in some countries it's illegal to be a Christian and can be dangerous. We can't imagine the fear they face.

If we live out the Beatitudes the devil will try shut us down - there is opposition. But there is a river of joy to those who are persecuted for righteousness sake. Jesus spoke very directly but preached the good news in love. He was loved by many but hated by many. He came to die in our place but what was meant to silence Him actually released the message He preached powerfully across the world and eternity.

The gospel couldn't be stopped, even though many through the centuries have died, been imprisoned and tortured for the sake of the gospel. The church still grows worldwide, even more amongst great persecution. We understand that the war is won through Jesus' death and resurrection, but the battle still rages for a time, until His return.

Even when you think he's absent or things aren't going your way. He is good. Trust in him and his plans for you.

Maybe that bad news is building your resilience or patience to make you a better person. Maybe you didn't get that job because he knew it would lead you astray.

We all need transformation by the Holy Spirit as these things don't come naturally. In Jesus' day the people were under Roman rule - ruled by oppression and military strength. Peace can feel like a distant hope but Jesus' peace is different.

Shalom is the Hebrew word for peace. It speaks of rightness of relationships, health, purpose, wholeness and completeness. It's not just an outward peace, without war and conflict, but a different kind of peace that Jesus offers within.

“Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you.” — Psalm 55:22

You don’t have to carry it alone.

Often we forget this. We end up dwelling on things alone, acting out in anger or just acting in a way we know we shouldn't. Instead, remember that he is with you. Talk to him. Cast your burden on him. Ask for guidance. Lord of lords, king of kings is always there for you.
