One of our church members was at the Big Church Festival in Sussex on Friday when a tragic incident occurred resulting in injuries and a fatality.

Our thoughts and prayers and deepest sympathy are for the family who have lost someone they love, those recovering from their injuries and everyone whose life has been affected by what happened.
Friday was a devastating reminder that life can change in a matter of seconds.

Hold your family tighter.
Tell people you love them.
Check in on those around you.
Choose kindness.
Never take tomorrow for granted.
Pray always.

Tomorrow we welcome a guest speaker to our service - Seumus Stewart- whose talk will be based on 1 Samuel 1- 20, ( Hannah praying for a son) He has sent us this slide so if you want to find out the connection.....Come along at 10.30am Sunday 23rd August to Headley Down Community Church Eddeys Lane!!

This Sunday our talk is about Passover, followed by our monthly Communion. The theme is The Passover - redemption through a substitute. Come and find out all about it ! All welcome to join us.

Tomorrow Sunday 9th August is International Book Lovers Day, an unofficial holiday to encourage book lovers to celebrate reading. People are encouraged to pick up a book to read. Why not pick up a bestseller like the Bible?
The Christian Bible is the best-selling and most widely distributed book of all time, with an estimated 5 to 7 billion copies sold and distributed globally over the centuries. It sells roughly 100 million copies every year.
At HDCC we use the New International Version (NIV).
Tomorrow we will be reading about the 10 Commandments in the book of Exodus.

On Sunday we had a farewell BBQ for our retiring pastor and his wife Cathie.
It is 18-years since they turned up at what was then St Francis Community Church and they quickly became involved in church life. For John it started with the musical worship team and later as Assistant to the Chaplain, which transitioned to Lead Pastor. He said "It has been great and encouraging to see the changes that the Lord has brought to the church over the years. I am convinced that the best is yet to come."
Until we appoint a new pastor Rev Elizabeth Knifton will be our interim Pastor.

End of an era!
Our Pastor John Russell retires at the end of this month after serving the church for 18 years!
His last church service will be this Sunday 26th July.
We would like to thank him for everything he has done for the church and the local community and his global outreach.
We will miss his passion for the Gospel, his leadership, his amazing musical talent on keyboards and guitars,his singing voice,his AV skills, his enthusiasm and his dedication to HDCC and Headley Down. We wish him well in his retirement.
Our thanks too go to his wife Cathie who will be stepping down from most of her responsibilities. It will be hard to replace her commitment and expertise on so many church matters and her kind pastoral care.
May God bless them both on the next part of their faith journeys.
