Oldhams Church

Oldhams Church A church at the heart of Oldhams estate in Bolton
Come as you are - No perfect people allowed! Who is Oldhams Church? The meeting lasts just over an hour.

There is a social housing estate in Bolton called Oldhams estate (nothing whatsoever to do with Oldham!) In 2014, a small group of people, part of the local parish church; St Paul’s Astley Bridge, began to pray and dream about how they could plant church within Oldhams estate. In January 2016, after much prayerful waiting, Sunday worship started. Oldhams Church is a community of Jesus’ followers.

We are seeking to become better followers of Jesus, better at sharing him with our friends and neighbours and better at being his family. Oldhams Church is made up of many different people, some who have been Christians for many years, some for just a few weeks and some who are yet to call themselves Christian. On Sundays, at the moment, we gather at 3.00pm at the Barlow Park Centre at the end of Dunoon Drive, BL1 6QY. Limited parking is available outside the centre but there is a large car park next door at the adjacent children's farm. There are songs, prayer, brews, treats and learning from the Bible. Throughout the week we do many things as a church family (to find out more you’ll need to come along on a Sunday!) These include; Football training, men in sheds, prayer walking, Alpha courses, Bible Study (currently going through the chosen mini-series), Celebrate Recovery 12-step group and lots more adhoc events. From November 2021, we are also starting an Urban ministry course called M:Power in conjunction with Blackburn diocese for those who have a passion for estate ministry. Jenny says,
“I was in a dark, lonely place for many years, and alcohol had destroyed my faith, hope and was destroying me and my family. In 2017 I found Oldhams Church and my relationship with Jesus. I haven't touched a drop of alcohol since. A true miracle from God”

John says,
“Since being part of church I’ve got people I can rely on, they are my family. Jesus has done that for me and he’s been there even when I haven’t known him.”

Today was a truly special occasion as Oldham’s Church celebrated its 10th birthday, a decade defined by faith, growth, and deep community roots. The atmosphere was filled with a profound sense of beauty as we reflected on the church's unique history; it is remarkable to consider that from the very birth of this church, the Antioch Network was pioneered, flourishing into a family of ten churches across Manchester.

The service focused on the powerful themes of legacy and testimony, honoring the journey of the past decade while looking forward to the future. Seeing the room filled with people coming together to worship, share their stories, and extend a heartfelt invitation to draw closer to Jesus served as a moving reminder of the church’s lasting impact.
