‘But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms round him and kissed him.' This Sunday we'll be thinking about one of the most famous of Jesus' parables, the parable of the prodigal son. A parable about the astonishing grace, forgiveness and generosity of God. Do come along and find out more. Come as you are... no previous experience needed. Refreshments from 10am. Service at 10.45am.

Another brilliant Deane Church Open Day. Lots of visitors from the local community and beyond. And a big thank-you to those who cleaned up the front churchyard, acted as church guides, rang the bells, made cakes and soup & served in the Church Centre cafe.

Did you know that a piece of Bolton’s history started right here in Deane?
George Marsh, the famous Bolton Protestant martyr, was born around 1515 in the Parish of Deane at a farm on Broadgate (now Junction Road). He was a farmer turned Curate who preached at Deane Church.
George Marsh refused to renounce his faith during the Marian Persecution and was tried at Smithills Hall before being sent to Chester to be executed at the stake in 1555.
The 24th of April is the 471st anniversary of his ex*****on.
Deane Church houses several memorials to George Marsh: a Celtic-style wheel cross in the front graveyard; a stained-glass window; a carved oak Communion table front depicting his martyrdom.
Join us at the Deane Church Open day on the 25th April 2026, 10am-3pm, to see these memorials and to explore the long history of this beautiful church that sits at the heart of Deane.

You might want to pop in for a moment of quiet, or to have a space to pray. Whatever might bring you along, we’d love to welcome you.
There will be people to chat to, and we’ll also be serving refreshments and light lunch in our Church Centre.

Despite the great downpour ahead of the service this afternoon, the Good Friday 'Hour at the foot of the Cross' at Deane was a special time. Thanks to Paul and Beccy for leading and speaking at that service. And thank you to Daniel Mullaney (Head of Clergy Development, Manchester Diocese) who preached at our Maundy Thursday service at Lostock Church yesterday evening, and to Phil Cansdale (Director of Mission and Ministry, Manchester Diocese) who preached at Deane Church last week.

"What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked him. The blind man said "Teacher, I want to see." As we continue our journey with Jesus to Jerusalem, do join us this Sunday as we pass through Jericho and listen in on a conversation between Jesus and Bartimaeus - the man who was given physical and spiritual sight. Guest preacher: The Rev'd Phil Cansdale, Director of Mission and Ministry, Diocese of Manchester.
