Our recitalist next week is Marc Murray who will be playing a fabulous programme of organ music.

Mr Purcell’s Wedding March​​​ - John Cook (1918-1984)
Improvisation on Dream Angus​​​ - Simon Clarkson (1965-2026)
Aria​​​​​​​ - Andrew Carter (1939-2026)
Organ Sonata No 1 in D minor, Op 42​​- Alexandre Guilmant (1837-1911)​
I. Introduction and Allegro
II. Pastorale: Andante quasi Allegretto
III. Final: Allegro assai

Marc currently serves as Director of Music at Bury Parish Church, Foundation Organist and Organ Teacher at Bolton School, and visiting teacher at both Stonyhurst College and Liverpool Hope University. He is also the conductor of the Preston Cecilian Choral Society, The Rawstorne Singers, and the Southport Bach Choir, the latter of which received significant acclaim for their performance at the 2024 International Bach Festival in Leipzig, and has been invited to return to the Festival in 2027.

📆Tuesday 1st September, 1.15pm

To kick off our September-October Lunchtime Recital Series, we have a vocal recital by tenor William Smith, accompanied by Simon Bate. Programme to follow below.

• Gurney - Five Elizabethan songs
• Faure - Cinq melodies de Venise
• Williams - 3 settings of Sally Richards
• Lees - Lady with the ten flounces

William and Simon formed their duo partnership in 2020 and perform regularly throughout the
Marches area and in London. Having grown up on the borders of Cheshire, Shropshire and
Wrexham William and Simon are keen to promote the arts and culture of this region and THE
MARCHES SONGBOOK was launched in October 2022 bringing together composers, poets and the
wider community in the borderlands of England and Wales.

We welcome all voice types and pianist who would like to learn the organ at Bolton Parish Church. In the last year we have been on Radio and TV and performed at some major civic events.
