Church at The Centre - Bolton

Based in Tonge Children’s Centre, and working in partnership with Centre staff and other valuable partners, our aim is that everyone in the local community should feel that "Church at The Centre" is available for them and makes them feel valued. The Children's Centre opened its doors to the Community in which it is situated in 2006, following the demolition of our Church building in 2005 which sto

od on land occupied by the current car park and access areas. The Church embarked on the Building Bridges Project in 2006 which has been reviewed on an ongoing basis, the last major change taking place in 2015 when Alison Dalton our Church Related Community Minister joined us and continued the work through the following aims:

1. To foster mutual respect, trust, support and kindness between generations.
• Aimed at countering alienation in younger people and fear in older people
• Special focus on links between older people and School Yrs 5, 6, 7 (before and during change to secondary school)

2. To help to develop the Centre into a hub for the community
• Promoting the café.
• Developing volunteering opportunities

3. By working with other groups, to support other community activities addressing needs in the area.
• e.g. Fusion, the UCAN Centre.
• Making best use of limited resources
• Avoiding duplication / competition between partners

4. That (by the end of the project) everyone in the local community will feel that Church at The Centre is available for them.
