Job Advertisement: Part-Time Administrator
North East Lancashire Unitarian Mission (NELUM)
The North East Lancashire Unitarian Mission (NELUM) is seeking a part-time self-employed Administrator to support its officers and member-chapels.
NELUM is an association of 13 small Unitarian chapels in East Lancashire and Cumbria. Its purpose is to support its member-chapels. NELUM is governed by trustees and elected officers, including a Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer, with decisions made by a General Committee composed of two delegates from each chapel, Ministers, Officers and Trustees.
This new administrator-role is intended to support the work of the officers and committees and to help NELUM to communicate effectively with its members. The role will be modelled on the successful experience of other local administrator-posts.
Hours and Pay
The role is expected to average 15–20 hours per week, though some flexibility will be needed. The post will be offered on a self-employed contract basis, at £15 per hour. The appointed person will report to the NELUM Secretary.
The work will be carried out from home, mostly, although attendance at certain meetings and events will be required. Mileage and agreed expenses will be reimbursed.
Main Duties
The role will initially include:
• Attending NELUM General Committee meetings
• Communicating with members on behalf of the officers
• Managing NELUM email accounts
• Maintaining NELUM records
• Organising and updating a NELUM website
• Supporting the NELUM officers, including the Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer
• Supporting special NELUM events
• Assisting with general administration as required
About the successful applicant
NELUM is looking for someone who is organised, reliable and able to work well with others. The appointed person will need to be flexible, self-motivated, and confident in handling routine administrative tasks.
This person should have:
• Good communication skills – both written and verbal
• Technical confidence in using a computer; learning new digital tools; and applying basic website-editing functions
• The ability, and circumstances, to work independently from home
• The ability to manage records and correspondence efficiently
• A flexible approach to working hours
• Sympathy with the aims and values of NELUM and the wider Unitarian movement
How to Apply
Applications should be sent electronically to the NELUM Secretary, Anne Mills, at: [email protected]
Please include details of personal experience and job-history, together with a short statement explaining why they would be suitable.
Closing date for applications: 17 June 2026
Shortlisted applicants will have the opportunity to speak to the current administrator of the Manchester District Association to learn more about how a similar role operates.
Selected candidates will, initially, be interviewed on-line, where possible, or by phone, and a small number from that list will be interviewed in person.
