St. Andrew's Parish Church

St. Andrew's Parish Church We have entered into a union with the Old Kirk and are now know as Bo’ness Parish Church. We are a Church of Scotland congregation. St.

The St Andrew’s building is closed but is allowed to host some acts of worship. Our leadership team is traditionally known as a Kirk Session. We have around 28 elders who make up this team. We believe that every member of the congregation is called to share in the ministry. This could be in an overseas programme, a national project, serving the local community or living out gospel values in their

everyday lives at work and at home. Our work patterns and job titles may be varied but we are all called to the vocation of discipleship. The church staff is made up of a number of part-time and full-time employees who help carry out the Kirk Session’s ministry strategy. The staff have a remit to work alongside our valued volunteers and church members so that together we can serve the community of Bo’ness and beyond. Andrew's Parish Church, Bo'ness is a charity registered in Scotland No: SC011448

Join us for the Advent labyrinth.
Take some time out from the busyness of the Christmas hustle and bustle and remember the REAL reason for Christmas. Open tomorrow from 2 till 4, 6 - 9pm and Sunday 6 -9pm.

Right from the end of October, the noise begins. Our telly screens are bombarded with Christmas adverts: John Lewis, M&S, Aldi—they all pile on the pressure to make this the ultimate Christmas. But I have to ask you: When did the real story of Christmas get drowned out? What is all the rushing and the relentless stress really about?

Although the St Andrew's Church building is not being used for worship, special permission has been granted to allow this well-loved Advent Installation to be available once more for the public to experience. This is an opportunity to visit St Andrew's Church and feel the peace that can only be found in a Sanctuary.

This is an encouragement, a simple call to action. `
Stop.
Take a breath.
Give yourself a bit of breathing space and ask: "What is Christmas truly, fundamentally, about?"
You have a perfect chance to find the answer.
Try the Advent Labyrinth.

On Sunday 8th June, 2025 the congregations of St Andrew's Parish Church and Bo'ness Old Kirk each voted on a Basis of Union adjustment that sought to create a union of both congregations to form a new congregation to be called "Bo'ness Parish Church".
Representatives from the Presbytery of Forth Valley and Clydesdale were present in each congregation to lead and oversee the voting process.
In St Andrew's Parish Church there voted: 24 For the Basis of Union adjustment and 8 Against the Basis of Union adjustment.
In Bo'ness Old Kirk there voted: 71 For the Basis of Union adjustment and 1 Against the Basis of Union adjustment.

Therefore as each congregation voted in the majority "For" the Basis of Union adjustment, it is declared agreed.

The Presbytery of Forth Valley and Clydesdale have set a date of 1st September 2025 when the Union will legally come into effect.

Over the summer period the two congregations and Kirk Sessions will work together to make plans for a successful transition into the new congregation "Bo'ness Parish Church" and more details will follow as these conversations progress.

05/06/2025

This Sunday the vote on the proposed Basis of Union with the old Kirk will take place at the start of the service.

Only members and adherents of the congregation are entitled to vote. All such people should have received a letter.

Please come along in person or if you can’t make it you can join/vote online (details are in the letter).

This is one of the most important decisions we as a congregation will make. Your vote/voice is crucial.

We are also holding a similar meeting this evening at 6pm.

We are also holding a similar meeting this evening at 6pm.

Discussions have taken place over the last few years on the question of whether to unite Bo’ness Old Kirk and St Andrew’s Church and into one Bo’ness Parish Church.

To support this process, we’re holding an information meeting after morning worship on Sunday 1st June to which all are welcome (Teas and coffees will be served). Worship starts at 10.45am.

The purpose of the meeting is to invite anyone interested to come along and hear further details and ask questions about the proposed Union and how it may work.

This meeting is open to everyone and we especially extend this to members of the public, those associated with St Andrews and other Old Kirk associates. There are many in the community who are involved with the Old Kirk either directly or indirectly including through organisations who use our building - everyone is warmly invited to come and hear more about the proposal.

This is also an opportunity for anyone in the community who may be interested in renewing a past connection with the church or who may be thinking of taking up a new church connection.

We hope to see you on Sunday and to answer any questions you may have. If you can’t attend, St Andrews are also holding a similar meeting on Wednesday 28 May at 6pm.

For information - On 8 June 2025 under the supervision of The Presbytery of Forth Valley and Clydesdale, members of Bo’ness Old Kirk and St. Andrew's Parish Church will vote on the proposed Union. Details of the voting process will also be available at the meeting on Sunday 1st June.
