On Sunday in church, we were privileged to be visited by someone from a charity called “Christians Against Poverty”. It was set up to help those who struggle with life, and in particular debt, which is one of their main areas of work. They assist people who find themselves in situations that mean they struggle with their own finances. Sometimes this happens through the loss of a job or even the break-up of a relationship. Whatever the reason, many people find themselves in debt through no fault of their own, and because of ignorance or fear they do not know where to turn for help and assistance. Christians Against Poverty have recognised this need and over a number of years they have sought to fulfil that need with the services they offer – and this has arisen through the love they have for the community; a love that Jesus Christ demonstrated during his earthly ministry - and we are called to follow his ways.
There are, of course, other organisations that are there to help with similar situations, not least Good Neighbour Schemes that can help with the completion of forms etc. I know I have made the point before, but it is important that we care for those around us, and as our speaker reminded us on Sunday, sometimes that will take us to places where we are uncomfortable. It may also mean we will have to listen rather than talk to the person we are helping. We are encouraged to talk, rather than keep silent, when life is troubling us – like the old adage, “a problem shared is a problem halved”. A good way to talk is to pray, and perhaps have someone to pray with rather than on your own. If you want to pray, talk, or share what you are going through at the moment, then please contact me or someone in one of our churches. At the bottom of the page I have provided the link to Christians Against Poverty.
May I wish you God’s love and peace
