Spurgeon Baptist Church Revealing God's love to the community... an active Christian Church in the Baptist tradition.

We are a group of warm and welcoming Christians of all ages gathered from across Milton Keynes and beyond. Our worship style can vary from week to week as we sing traditional hymns as well as modern worship songs. We have a lively Junior Church and offer numerous groups and activities for all ages during the week.

This morning we met for a sunrise service in Water Hall Park. ☀️

It was a perfect morning for us to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, and we were joined at the end by some farmyard friends. 🐮

Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb … ‘You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen!'

Today the church is being prepared for tomorrow’s celebration of Easter Sunday, with a colourful array of flowers being brought in to brighten the Easter garden display. 🌺🌱🌼

The tomb is empty and the stone is rolled away, which means that He is risen - hallelujah! 🎉

This Good Friday, a group of us went on a pilgrimage walk between St Marys Church, Redbourn and St Albans Cathedral, along the St Amphibalus Way. 🚶

The walk was done in good spirits despite the damp weather, which thankfully disappeared as the day wore on. Following the River Ver, we stopped off at Redbournbury Mill for some delicious hot cross buns and pastries before pressing on towards St Albans Cathedral for The Liturgy of Good Friday service, which was sung by the outstanding Cathedral Choir.

Walking and sharing in the service together was a great opportunity to prayerfully ponder the events of Good Friday and to get to know other people in the group better, with a diverse range of ages and nationalities taking part.

Good Friday: A time to reflect, pray, and come together as family 🙏👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Good Friday is a Christian observance that commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
As part of the Holy Week, Good Friday falls on the Friday before Easter Sunday, a date that varies annually based on the lunar calendar. Although not considered a national holiday, it is a public holiday, with many businesses and schools closing and various special services being held in churches across the country.

🍞🍷 This evening, join us for our Maundy Thursday Tenebrae service, at 7.30pm.

🕯️ The service of Tenebrae, meaning “darkness” or “shadows”, is a tradition practiced by the church since medieval times. It is a service of prolonged meditation on Christ’s suffering as the readings trace the story of Christ’s passion. A response in form of a reading, song, or poem follows each Bible reading and a candle is extinguished each time as we ponder the depth of Christ’s suffering and death. The service concludes with the return of the small but persistent flame of the Christ candle in anticipation of the joy of ultimate victory.

✝ All are welcome to any of our Easter services and events which are being held by our two congregations at the Water Eaton Church Centre this week.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 All our welcome to our all age service happening tomorrow at 11am! We will move onto the third theme of our Bible series ‘Six Beats One Story'. Come along as we think about the theme of 'Exile'.

Cake and refreshments will also be available as we continue to celebrate birthdays together as a church family.

🥣 After the service, we are offering a simple lunch of soup and a roll for those who would like to stay on for a longer time of fellowship. New-comers and visitors are especially welcome – we would love to get to know you more!
