A GLIMPSE INTO THE PAST
We need your help!
The first known chapel on the site of our chapel in Tockholes was built in 1710, offering a permanent place for the villageβs devoted Christians.
That building, in turn, gave way to the chapel we see today, constructed in 1890.
Generations of villagers have walked through its doors, and in recent years, the communityβs generous support has ensured that the chapel remains a cornerstone of village life, a living testament to our Christian heritage.
This year, 2026, we remember Rev David Chritchley, who shepherded our congregation for 36 years until his passing in 1926.
His dedication shaped the spiritual life of Tockholes for decades, and it is fitting that we honour his memory during this centenary year.
Beyond celebrating our ministers, we are embarking on an exciting new project: tracing the family histories of those who have faithfully served our chapel over the centuries.
Already, five ancestral trees are in progress, some stretching back to the 1600s, others to the 1740s. Each family, each story, adds another piece to the rich tapestry of our villageβs history.
We are reaching out to you, our friends, neighbours, and history enthusiasts:
Are you interested in Ancestry?
Can you research family history on a computer?
Do you have any knowledge, however small, of families connected to the Chapel?
Every scrap of information can help us uncover stories lost to time. Your contributions could fill gaps in our records, and together, we can preserve the living memory of Tockholes Chapel for future generations.
The past is calling; will you help us answer it?
