A busy weekend for our Choristers, after eco church on Saturday (13th), Sunday 14th is Mucic Sunday. Our Church Choir is a member of the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) and many of our choir members have completed training and awards (we have 4 Deans Level Choristers) as well as singers with training from other areas.
We are lucky to have a highly respected Director of Music in our wonderful Organist Joan and even boast an up and coming organ scholar (although the singers try to keep him within their ranks on the bass line) in Leon.
In the name of team work, some of our choir members sing in other places:
*St Andrews and Christ the King making the Society choir (many local events)
*Durham Cathedral for Translation of the Relics
*The Bishop of Beverley's Choir (for local events and his service at York Minster)
*St Augustine's Darlington
*Rectory Chorale
*Middlesbrough Cathedral
To be truthful they'll go anywhere offering a top A and a good descant
In celebration, our anthem was "when in our music God is glorified" and the introit was the Choristers Prayer. The prayer is said by choristers all over the country before or after they sing and those amongst you that see the choir on a Sunday before they enter church, may recognise the words, words that the choir members aim to live by. After all, as they say, the person who sings, prays twice
Bless oh Lord, us thy servants who minister in thy temple.
Grant that what we sing with our lips, we may believe in our hearts and what we believe in our hearts, we may show forth in our lives.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord
Amen
