Welcome to Rowheath Pavilion Church!
In both our 9am and 11am services this week, we give a warm welcome to Pastor Mont Mitchell from Westbrook Church in Illinois in the US. Mont is also the International Director of our movement, the Fellowship of Churches of Christ. This Sunday, Mont is journeying with us through Mark and will be speaking from Mark 1:21-28.

When was the last time you felt amazed by something? It’s highly likely you’ll have felt that wow moment, that feeling of awe and wonder. That experience and feeling stays with you, you remember it, it begins to sit with you. That’s what we read in this week’s passage, the crowds being amazed that Jesus drives out an impure spirit. As we explore this further, stop and ask yourself, if you had been present and witnessed what Jesus did, what would your reaction have been? How do you respond to the fact Jesus acts with authority and did such an amazing thing by casting out a demon? How will you let this reality impact your own faith and experience of Jesus? He gives us that same authority today to do exactly what He did then. He came to set the captives free, freedom from anxiety, depression, addiction and ultimately our sin. Have you heard of stories of people being set free? How do you react to that? Would you be amazed if that was your experience here today?

We start May with an adventure into Mark’s Gospel.

This Sunday we are diving into Mark’s Gospel which is the beginning of the good news about Jesus, the Messiah. This gospel is one of the first accounts of the life of Jesus of Nazareth. The entire story focuses on the shocking claim that puzzled Jesus’ disciples all throughout the gospel, that the suffering, crucified and now risen Jesus is the Messiah and Son of God. God’s love and upside down kingdom were revealed when Jesus died for the sins of the world. The story ends without closure, forcing us, the readers, to grapple with this claim. Will we all run away like the disciples or will we recognise the crucified Jesus as our King? Ultimately we answer such questions for ourselves which is really what the Gospel of Mark prompts us to do. How will you respond to the stories and truth of Jesus’ claims, his healings and miracles, his stories and parables? How will you let Jesus transform you as we explore this Gospel? Which of Jesus disciples will you begin by identifying with and which will you end up more like at the end of the series?
