MacArthur Barstow and Gibbs Vets have been asked by BVFF to co-ordinate the project on their behalf, and we are looking for local landowners to sign up in the project area of North Worcestershire to allow for the trapping and vaccination of badgers on their land.

This is a project which comes with no cost to landowners and no harm to Badgers, but with time, hopefully, an eradication of TB in cattle, a disease which bears a heavy cost to the Farming community

All of the relevant information can be found on the BVFF website along with the registration form

BVFF is a team of trained professionals tasked with delivering fully funded badger vaccination at scale across parts of England. The goal is to create healthier badger populations that are less susceptible to contracting and spreading TB, ultimately reducing the risk to cattle.

Forthcoming Event with the Lickey Hills Society: Balsam Bashes
Himalayan balsam is an annual plant with scented flowers in shades of pink and purple. It was introduced to Britain as an ornamental garden plant but it is now considered a problematic w**d, particularly in damp areas. It is a fast growing, tall plant which can grow to a height of about two metres (6.5 feet).

The negative impact of Himalayan balsam include:

Crowding out native plants for space, light, moisture and nutrients. Rapid growth leads to tall stands of balsam that crowd out other plants and reduce species diversity.

Soil erosion along watercourses, it’s shallow roots do little to stabilise the soil along river banks leading to erosion and habitat alterations.

Despite it’s height, balsam is shallow rooting and easy to remove by hand pulling.
The Society will be holding Balsam Bashes every Saturday during June, July and August, the first being on Saturday 6th June. For the first session, we will meet at the Visitor Centre in Warren Lane at 10.00. Some later sessions will take place in Cofton Park, on these occasions we will meet on Lickey Road. Flyers will be sent prior to each session.
Each session will last for approximately two hours. (You do not need to stay for the full two hours). Please wear gloves (long sleeves may be advisable too) and appropriate footwear (the ground may be wet and uneven).
Please join us when possible to help Society members tackle this on-going problem.

You may be aware that by January 2027, the UK's old copper phone network will be switched off. For older or vulnerable residents, particularly those with telecare alarms or no mobile phone, it can be confusing and potentially risky if they're not prepared in time.

These changes will affect everyone who has or relies on a home phone, particularly for a telecare alarm, medical device, or burglar alarm. With less than a year to go before the switchover, ignoring provider messages mean the services you rely on may be disrupted. It’s important to take action when BT, Virgin Media O2 or your landline provider, like TalkTalk, Sky, Zen, EE, PlusNet or any other provider contacts you, or even better – DO NOT wait to be contacted and instead contact your provider today. For most, it’s as simple as plugging your phone into your router instead of the wall socket.

Further information and support are available on BT’s Connected Together site www.bt.com/about/all-ip/connected-together, or by calling 0330 1234 150.

Don't put off switching and make sure you and your loved ones are supported throughout the process.

You can also watch BT’s Digital Voice Expert explaining how to prepare for the UK Landline Switchover www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFYk2cVGgOU&t=13s It is a simple guide explaining what to expect.
