A New World Heritage Site

John Lampen shares a reflection on visiting the ancient settlement of Sebastia in Palestine (with help from Dave and Lynn Morris). When I visited Palestine with Dave and Lynn Morris in 2017, we visited Sebastia, once the capital of biblical Samaria. It is a very ancient settlement. It is said to be the burial place of the prophets Elisha and Obadiah (who wrote the shortest book in the Hebrew Bible, a fierce attack on the Palestinians of his day); and later of the body of John the Baptist, who is revered by Christians and Muslims....

Can you help at Bournville Heritage Open Day?

Bournville Friends have opened the Meeting House on Heritage Open Day very successfully for the last 13 years. It's a fun day, giving us a chance to talk to interesting people and sometimes meet old friends. We don't make refreshments but there are static displays about the building and of course Quakers. This year many of our members are unavailable to help, so please could we appeal to other Local Meetings for some support. ...

Temporary closure of Coventry Meeting House and move to alternative premises

30th August is the last week Coventry Quakers will be in their Meeting House before temporarily moving. From 6th September we move to the Headquarters of Girlguiding Warwickshire (Guide HQ) until at least the end of 2026. We will be open there on Sunday mornings from 10.15am until 12.15pm or 1.15pm (depending on when in the month it is.) Meeting for Worship will be 10:30 - 11:30, and we plan to continue with our normal monthly arrangements after worship: Business Meeting (1st Sunday of the month), Bring and Share Lunch (2nd Sunday) Meeting for Learning (3rd Sunday)....

Cathy Tuckett of Cotteridge Meeting reports on a recent Quaker Mental Health workshop and shares an invitation to join a book group. On Saturday 27th June, a group of 14 Elders/Pastoral Friends (from 9 Central England local Meetings) attended a workshop on Quakers and Mental Health. We began with a discussion about what we mean by mental ill-health and how we recognise it, acknowledging that it is something we may all experience to a greater or lesser extent during our lives....

Update on building work at Coventry Meeting House

Quakers have had a Meeting House in Coventry from the 1600s. The current Meeting House was built in 1953. Our main room is on the first floor, making access a challenge. Coventry Quakers have been fundraising to upgrade our building and make it fully accessible, for ourselves and for the many community groups that use it.
