Beacon Evangelical Church

Beacon Evangelical Church Beacon Church is a lively, friendly, vibrant multicultural inner city church with a focus on sharing the message of Jesus Christ & discipling its members.

We began in 1987 as a union of three smaller churches with a vision to be a ‘Beacon’ of the good news of Jesus, shining from the top of the hill to Handsworth

We aim to be a Beacon of God’s Good News in Handsworth and wherever He places us to live and work. We are here to demonstrate to others the Good News of Jesus Christ, to restore lives, rebuild community and build up the body of the church in love so that all are actively fulfilling this task: to, GO, BE FRUITFUL and MULTIPLY.

Beacon Sunday Worship - But grace was given to each one of us
11:00 AM | Sunday 7th June 2026

Subject: But grace was given to each one of us
Hosted by: Stacia Evans
Speaker: Tim Turner
Scripture: Ephesians 4:1-16

"But grace was given to each one of us..."

What do you really think of church? It's not a refuge to hide in or an optional extra, but the bride of Christ, an embassy in a strange country, on the frontline of God's activity in the world...if...we take the gifts God gave and each play our part. It is important for us to grasp this truth and put it into action in our lives.

Today we are taking a look at the last of the gifts God gave to equip the church for service, the gift of the apostle. The original Apostles had a very specific task as witnesses of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, so what kind of 'apostles' are being referred to in Ephesians 4? We will be looking at this gift and the others in the context of God's amazing plan for the church, and our place in it.

We meet every Sunday at 11am. You are warmly welcome to join us in the Beacon building or watch online via

Today we continue our 'one another' study, looking at the call to show humility towards 'one another' in the body of the church.

Our key scripture is Philippians 2:3-8 - Jesus is the model and blueprint of how to show humility.

Beacon Sunday Worship - Delay is not Denial
11:00 AM | Sunday 24th May 2026

Subject: Waiting on God - Delay is not Denial
Hosted by: Helen Lee
Speaker: Jaria Blake
Scripture: Isaiah 40:31

There are times when we need to wait on the Lord's timing but while we wait God is at work shaping our character. He teaches us humility and strengthens our faith even when circumstances are uncertain.

However waiting is not a refusal from God and not all delay is from him. We need to have discernment to know the difference. Sometimes the enemy is trying to withhold the gift that God has given and we need to call upon God to fight to our spiritual battle.

Let's us hear what God is saying to us.

Beacon Sunday Worship - Mission Sunday
11:00 AM | Sunday 17th May 2026

Subject: Mission
Hosted by: Jarvia Blake
Speaker: Guest from FEBA, the Far East Broadcasting Association

This Sunday is one of our 'Mission Sundays', when we invite a Christian Mission organisation to come and share with us to:
- explain what they do and what their current projects are
- challenge us - what we can learn from them as we think about how to reach out to our community with the good news about Jesus?

FEBA are unusual. Long before podcasts were invented, they were using radio and audio creatively as a medium to introduce people to the good news about Jesus. That's why part of their mission strapline is, 'we're passionate about the creative use of radio and other audio media to inspire people to follow Jesus Christ'.

Come, listen, be inspired in our year of witness, to be creative in your outreach!

We meet every Sunday at 11am. You are warmly welcome to join us in the Beacon building or watch online via

Beacon Family Service - No Longer Strangers
11:00 AM | Sunday May 3rd 2026

Subject: No Longer Strangers - God's hidden plan for his family
Hosted by: Edwina Turner
Speaker: Tim Turner
Bible verses: Ephesians 2:19

The Church is misunderstood by so many people, both Christians and those who are not. It is seen as an optional extra, a club, a social convenience, an institution, a bunch of hypocrites who claim to be better than everyone else and do not follow their own teaching. Perhaps that is what Church can become for some but God's own Word tells us that the church is his mysterious plan, only revealed by Jesus and made possible by his sacrificial death on the cross.

Putting your faith in Jesus means a new life of closeness with God, all barriers gone, all hostility forgotten and rebellion forgiven. But the it also means that the barriers and hostilities between people are destroyed, bringing one new human family out of many diverse backgrounds. People of all ethnc groups, languages, cultures, social classes, genders and ages are transformed from strangers into family members, from being distant to being close, from being foreigners to being citizens in God's kingdom, from being excluded to be included and valued.

What a plan! In a world riven by nationalist, religious and ethnic hostilities, does the church present an example of hope? Do we feel that kind of unity and love in our church? Are we working to make it happen? God's desire is to proclaim his grace to the world through a demonstration of this new creation community. No pressure then?!

Teachers are God's gift to the church!

Beacon Sunday Worship -
11:00 AM | Sunday 26th April 2026

Subject: The gift of the Teacher
Speaker: Jesse Burland Lokko
Scripture: Ephesians 4:11

Did you know that 'Teachers' are one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit that God gives to his church? Not just the gift of a supernatural skill, but the gift of a person.

Today we will take a look at the role of teachers as outlined in Ephesians 4:11, how they are one of the gifts specifically used "to equip the saints" for "works of service".

Our hope is that The Holy Spirit will encourage those who are already working in this role in the church and convict others who have been gifted in this way but have not yet taken it up, to step boldly into God's role for them.

Go teachers! We need you!

We meet every Sunday at 11am. You are warmly welcome to join us in the Beacon building or watch online via

Scripture: Luke 5:27-32

Jesus extends grace to the most unlikely. Grace isn’t earned or reserved for the religious. It’s a gift offered to those willing to respond to His call: “Follow me.”

Beacon Sunday Worship - Called to Share - The Gift of The Evangelist
11:00 AM | Sunday 12nd April 2026

Subject: Called to Share - the gift of the Evangelist
Speaker: Chris Fletcher
Scripture: Ephesians 4:11-12

In a culture that has rapidly moved away from God, the challenge isn’t just that the message has changed—it’s that we’re speaking to a different kind of heart.

Yet the call remains the same: every believer is sent to share the gospel. “Called to Share” reminds us that while not all are evangelists, all are witnesses—and the power to save is not in us, but in the gospel itself.

Beacon Sunday Worship - This is Love!
11:00 AM | Sunday 5th April 2026

Subject: 'This is Love, not that we loved God but that he first loved us and sent his son...'
Speaker: Tim Turner
Scripture: 1 John 4:7-13

Today we celebrate the earth-shaking (literally) day that changed history and the world forever, the day when a man rose from the dead. This was no ordinary man. This was God himself, in the flesh, taking decisive action to deal with the heart of the human problem, the rebelliousness in our hearts against all that he has declared to be good.

Are you still tying to 'love' God, to pay the price for your disobedience and failure? It has been done already and HE did it. Throughout human history God has made us aware of his love for us and our helplessness to help ourselves. He promised to make a way for us to be whole again, to be free to know him again and that's what he was doing in Jesus, in his life, death and resurrection. Surely this is true love!
