Happy memories of another splendid Pearson Church Organists weekend of music making with the brilliant John Butt.

John was organist here at St Alban's 1977-79 and it was especially super to welcome John back to St Alban's Church this weekend. John last played for a concert in the St Alban's Festival in 1984!

It was also lovely to welcome back Fr Bruce Dutson, who was present for John's organ concert on Saturday. Fr Bruce had been Assistant Priest in the late 1970s when John was organist.

Two wonderful Sunday services and a happy weekend of music making indeed!!

St Alban's Church Choir singing the beautiful anthem by Herbert Howells - Mine eyes for beauty pine, yesterday morning at Mass.
It was a fourth Sunday weekend and we were delighted to welcome Pearson Organist and Director of the Dunedin Consort, John Butt, back to St Alban's where he was organist 1977-79 as a then Sixth Former, at Solihull School.
It was an absolute pleasure to work with John, a very fine organist and musician indeed and a true gentleman indeed.

Maestro David Briggs , former Organist at St Alban's Church, international concert organist and Organist at the Cathedral St John the Divine, New York will be directing a Choral Workshop at 3pm, leading into Choral Evensong at 5pm.
This event is ADMISSION FREE
(£5 for music provision on the day)

At 7.30pm David will be playing an organ concert.
Tickets £20 and include a Reception Buffet with David post concert.

Maestro John Butt, former Organist at St Alban's, returns to St Alban's Church to take centre stage tomorrow for our next Pearson Organists Concert at 1.00pm.
Do come and join us to welcome John back to his Birmingham roots! John was a pupil at Solihull School and Organist and Director of Music at St Alban's 1977-79.
A super programme of organ music to enjoy.
John is also playing for both of our Sunday services this weekend, to which singers are welcome to sing with St Alban's choir.
9am Rehearsal for 10am Mass
4.30 Rehearsal for 6pm Choral Evensong and Benediction.

It certainly was a very uplifting and wholesome Requiem Mass on Tuesday, celebrating the life of dear Edward Fellows, who had sung in St Alban's choir for over 70 years and had also served many years as a churchwarden.
There were five organists in church for Edward's service on Tuesday, past and present, who have held the post of Organist and Director of Music at St Alban's, who had come to pay their respects to Edward.

Here is the celebratory note that Edward left the church on, for the last time, at the end of his service. This was recorded last evening, just before choir practice..... indeed, note the arrival of the choir adding to the fun!!
