Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh
Vaisakhi 2026
This year, Vaisakhi falls on Tuesday, 14th April 2026. You are all humbly invited to join the celebrations at Ramgarhia Gurdwara Sahib, Small Heath, as per the programme below.
The Significance of Vaisakhi, on the historic occasion of Vaisakhi 1699, when the Five Beloved Ones (Panj Pyare) came forward at the call of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the Khalsa was created. This gave the Sikh Panth a distinctive identity and a unique discipline. Guru Ji sought to create a nation of "lions" who could reach the highest spiritual heights while standing against tyranny. By creating the Khalsa, Guru Ji abolished caste distinctions and promoted equality for all.
When the holy nectar (Amrit) was being prepared, Mata Sahib Kaur Ji added Patashas (sugar crystals). This act symbolised that no endeavour is complete without the participation of women, forever elevating the status of women in Sikhism.
After initiating the Panj Pyare, Guru Ji himself received Amrit from them, introducing true democracy into religion by vesting authority in the community (Guru Panth). Let us gather to celebrate these noble values and rededicate ourselves to Guru Ji’s ideals of justice and equality.
