A few of us took a visit to Winterbourne House and Gardens yesterday - a lovely reminder of the beauty and resilience of nature. It was a pleasure to deepen our sense of community with each other with a walk, a natter and a good cuppa!

"God is spirit, and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." (John 4:24)

These words, displayed on the wall of our Meeting House, come from Jesus' conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well. They remind us that worship is not confined to a particular place or ritual, but is found in openness, sincerity, and attentiveness to the Spirit. As we gather in stillness today, we seek to discover and rediscover the depths of that attentiveness.

As temperatures rise across Britain this week, our Meeting House garden remains a place of shade, stillness, and welcome. Whether you’re seeking quiet reflection, community, or simply a cool place to pause, you are warmly invited. Take care of yourselves and one another in the heat.

Today is polling day for our local elections. Whatever your views or party preference, may we all approach this day with thoughtfulness, integrity, and care for our community. As Quakers, we value listening deeply, seeking truth, and working for the common good. If you’re able to vote today, may your choice be guided by compassion and hope for our shared future.

"Bring into God’s light those emotions, attitudes and prejudices in yourself which lie at the root of destructive conflict, acknowledging your need for forgiveness and grace. In what ways are you involved in the work of reconciliation between individuals, groups and nations?"
