With the FIFA World Cup well underway this month, Pope Leo XIV has dedicated his June prayer intention to the power of sport โ praying that "sport may always be a school of fraternity, not of empty rivalry, a space of encounter, not exclusion, a path of peace, not violence."
His full intention: "Let us pray that sport may be an instrument of peace, encounter, and dialogue among cultures and nations, and that they promote values such as respect, solidarity, and personal growth."
Billions will watch. Billions will cheer. Behind every kit, every flag, every face in the crowd โ a soul made in the image of God.
As the Holy Father reminds us: "in life, as in the game, no one is saved alone. We need others to grow, to learn respect, to overcome our limits, and to celebrate together the victories we achieve."
A record 48 national teams compete across 104 matches โ 48 nations. One humanity. One Lord.
