The Sacrament of Marriage is a vocation and a lifelong mission of love. Your faith is not simply part of the Nuptial Mass or Marriage Service — it is something that can shape and sustain your life together for years to come.

The preparation course offers engaged couples the opportunity to explore the meaning of marriage in God’s plan, deepen their understanding of the Sacrament and develop practical relationship skills to help build a strong and lasting marriage.

🌹 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆! 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗩𝗶𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆 — 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟴
𝗗𝗶𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗲𝘄𝘀𝗯𝘂𝗿𝘆

Today, the Church bursts into song — for today is the birthday of Our Lady, the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The Church celebrates Mary's birthday on September 8 — a date that falls exactly nine months after the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on December 8. Every year, the liturgy invites the faithful to pause and marvel at this extraordinary gift: a human life, conceived and born in the normal way, yet unlike any other.

The Roman Martyrology proclaims that Mary was "of the lineage of Abraham, born of the tribe of Judah and of the progeny of King David." She was born to be the Mother of the Saviour of the world, the spiritual mother of all men, and the holiest of God's creatures — and because of her Son's infinite merits, she was conceived and born immaculate and full of grace.

🕯️ How to Celebrate Today
- Attend Holy Mass and offer it in thanksgiving for the gift of Our Lady
- Pray the Rosary — since Mary always points us to her Son, we can attend Mass, read Scripture concerning her role in salvation, and pray the Most Holy Rosary
- Honour Ss. Anne and Joachim — pray for the grandparents and elderly in your life; they carry wisdom and intercession beyond measure
- Pray for families across the diocese — especially those waiting on God, struggling with infertility, or raising children in challenging situations.

🌹 Happy Birthday, Our Lady! — Pray for us, Holy Mother of God, and for all the faithful of the Diocese of Shrewsbury.

𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 The God who Speaks: 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀, 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗞.

From cover to cover, we are celebrating the Bible. In 73 books – from Genesis to Revelation – is the greatest story ever told. Our passion is to bring them alive through the medium of art in this unique competition and exhibition.

We invite artists, graphic designers and illustrators from across the UK to design the front covers of any of the 73 books of the Bible.

We want to celebrate creativity and innovation and promote a greater visual awareness and understanding of the Bible today. We welcome multiple submissions (up to four), and all selected entries will create the final exhibition. We offer seven cash prizes with an overall winner decided by a Panel of Judges.

A full colour catalogue of the 73 selected covers will be published.
Deadline for submissions – 21st September 2026.
The Exhibition will run from 10th February 2027 to 9th April 2027.
