Kindness costs nothing.

Whatever your problem is with another person, kindness isn’t chargeable. It doesn’t require wealth, status or effort beyond a conscious choice. So why choose not to be kind?

Why, when someone is already hurting, do some people feel the need to twist the knife just a little deeper? What is there to gain from adding more pain to someone else’s burden?

Perhaps it offers a fleeting sense of control, superiority or justification. Perhaps it masks unresolved hurt, fear or anger. But whatever the reason, the damage reaches far beyond the moment.

Kindness doesn’t mean agreeing with someone’s actions or pretending that nothing happened. It means remembering that even when we disagree, we are still dealing with another human being.

In the end, people rarely remember every word of an argument, but they will remember how they were made to feel.

So before choosing another cutting remark, another cold shoulder or another unnecessary blow, ask yourself one simple question:

What do I truly gain by being unkind?

More often than not, the answer is… nothing at all
