Remembering the tragic moment RMS Titanic struck an iceberg and Thomas Andrews Jr, who during the final hours was seen wandering the decks encouraging passengers to wear their lifebelts, and to make their way to the lifeboats.

Mary Sloan, a stewardess, and only female on board from Belfast, testified, β€œMr. Andrews met his fate like a true hero, realizing the great danger he gave up his life to save the women and children of the Titanic. They will find it hard to replace him."

🟠 Online Orange Archive Now Live

The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland has launched a new Online Orange Archive, showcasing unique documents and records from our extensive collection.

Created through the Museum of Orange Heritage and funded by the Department for Communities’ Covid Recovery Programme for Heritage, administered by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, this resource allows users to explore over 200 years of Orange history from anywhere in the world.

πŸ“œ Grand Lodge Digitisation Officer, Carly Wallace, who has led this project since 2022, explains:
β€œThe collection here at the Museum contains manuscript and printed material dating from the Seventeenth Century. Much of this is unique, and digitising it allows us to preserve the originals while sharing their information with a wider audience. It has been an exciting and rewarding project, and I hope users will learn more about Orangeism as they explore.”

The first release includes:
β€’ Grand Lodge Warrant Registers
β€’ Grand Lodge Reports (1900–1950)
β€’ Material relating to World Orangeism

πŸŽ™ Museum Curator, Dr Jonathan Mattison, welcomed the launch:
β€œThis is another important step in helping people understand Orangeism and the Orange Institution. Our archives have been open to the public for years, but this online resource allows users to explore our history at the touch of a button. We hope people from across the world will make use of the documents released now and in the months ahead.”

πŸ”— Explore the archive:

πŸ“ Documents can also be accessed onsite at the Museum of Orange Heritage, 368 Cregagh Road, Belfast.
