Congratulations to our Chaplain, Fr Dominic, who was honoured earlier this evening at Belfast City Hall during celebrations marking 10 years of The People’s Kitchen, for the part he played in helping establish what has become a vital source of support for those experiencing homelessness and poverty across our city. A great example of social justice for our students. We’re very proud of you, Fr Dominic!

"Looking back now, the nineties and the early noughties seem to be a different age. The pressures on students were intense, but that generation did not need to worry about the harms of social media. Harms which have unquestionably in my mind been responsible in large part for the catastrophic decline in young people’s mental health over this past two decades,

"In that context, faith, and the strong sense of common purpose that faith communities present, is one of the anchors that can keep people grounded."

Earlier this month, Bishop Alan McGuckian SJ solemnly reopened the Chapel of Corpus Christi and dedicated its new altar at the Catholic Chaplaincy at Queen’s.

A beautiful day of prayer, thanksgiving and celebration as students, alumni, benefactors and friends gathered to mark this important new chapter in the life of the Chaplaincy.

In his homily, Bishop Alan reminded us of the true purpose of university life: “We are not to become just graduates. But rather saints. We are made for heaven.”

Following the Mass, celebrations continued across the renewed Chaplaincy spaces and the newly opened Ryan Hall. More photos to come!

A new chapter for the Catholic Chaplaincy at Queen’s.

Over recent weeks, we have begun unveiling the key spaces within our renewed Chaplaincy complex — from the restored Chapel of Corpus Christi to the Macaulay Common Room, Ryan Reading Room, Mosaic CafĂ©, Cloister Garden and Terrace, and the new Ryan Hall student residence.

Reimagined for a new generation of students and researchers, these spaces are intended to be places of prayer, hospitality, study, friendship and community at the heart of University life.

We look forward to welcoming many through their doors in the months ahead.

On the Fifth Sunday of Easter, Bishop Alan McGuckian SJ blessed Ryan Hall, the new student residence of the Catholic Chaplaincy at Queen’s University, along with the renewed Chaplaincy spaces including Mosaic CafĂ© and the Cloister Garden.

Ryan Hall marks a new chapter in supporting students with a welcoming home for study, friendship and community. We’re delighted that the residence is already almost fully booked for September.

Celebrations for the reopening of the Catholic Chaplaincy at Queen’s University and the opening of the new Ryan Hall student residence began earlier this month with a memorable banquet in the University’s Great Hall.

Hosted by Bishop Alan McGuckian SJ, the evening brought together church leaders, students, alumni, benefactors, architects, artists and friends from across Ireland and beyond who helped make this once-in-a-generation renewal possible.

In his address, Bishop McGuckian reflected on the Chaplaincy’s enduring partnership with Queen’s and its vital role at the heart of university life:

“The Chaplaincy does not stand apart from this university’s vision and mission. It stands at its heart.”

Guests also enjoyed music from Fr Eugene O’Hagan and Fr Martin O’Hagan ahead of the reunion of The Priests at the Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving.

A joyful and historic chapter for the Chaplaincy community — with more celebrations still to come.
