We at The Catholic Chaplaincy at Queen’s are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mary Katrina McGrattan, beloved sister of our Chaplain, Fr Dominic.

We hold Mary Katrina, Fr Dominic, their mother Kitty, siblings, and the whole McGrattan family in our prayers at this time. Mary Katrina will be remembered at Mass in the Chaplaincy this week, as we commend her to the loving mercy of God.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. 🤍

A lovely evening at our Welcome Back BBQ. It was great to meet many new faces, catch up with familiar ones, and enjoy some delicious food! We’re looking forward to a full year ahead and many friendships and moments to come!

Chaplaincy has always sought to be a home not only for faith and friendship, but for scholarship, learning and the life of the mind. So we were especially delighted to add a new volume to the growing collection of works by Estelle Sheehan (née Haan) eminent Queen’s alumna, Emerita Professor of English and Neo-Latin Studies, and longstanding friend of the Chaplaincy, in our Ryan Reading Room.

Estelle’s latest work is an edition of a seventeenth-century biblical epic on Moses and the Crossing of the Red Sea: William Dillingham’s Aegyptus Triumphata (Bloomsbury Neo-Latin Series, 2026).

A prolific scholar whose work has been published by leading academic presses, Estelle has made a distinguished contribution to the intellectual life of Queen’s and far beyond. Her growing collection in the Ryan Reading Room sits fittingly alongside the work of other eminent local scholars represented there, including Helen Waddell and James McEvoy — a small but growing testament to a remarkable tradition of scholarship and learning with deep roots in this place.

As the academic year drew to a close, we celebrated five students taking the next step in their faith journey.

Congratulations to Alice, Becca, Chiara, Clarissa and Michelle. Becca, Clarissa and Michelle were baptised, confirmed and received First Holy Communion, while Alice and Chiara were confirmed.

These celebrations bring to ten the number of students who have received sacraments through Chaplaincy this year, with James, Jared, Luca, Lukas and Torin at Christmas.

We were delighted to welcome Bishop Alan McGuckian SJ and to use our new baptismal sculpture for the first time, before ending the day with a joyful barbecue.

Please keep all of these students in your prayers as they continue to grow in faith and friendship with Christ.
