President Bishop Sarah Grove’s Easter message: This Easter, we once again focus on the message of good news in the cross of Jesus Christ. On the cross, Jesus made visible an unconditional love for everyone regardless of their background, class or cultural identity. At the core of the cross and resurrection is the formation of a community that transcends cultural values and works towards the flourishing of all. It is a message of hope and acceptance.

In the Old Testament, God commands the people to love the ‘alien who resides with you’ (Leviticus 19: 33-34). Jesus taught us that we are called to love our neighbour both locally and globally and exemplified this by reaching across barriers to welcome young and old into the kingdom. As Christians, we continue to support policies that are grounded in compassion for the poor, support for the stranger and embracing the outcast. I condemn any use of Christian language that runs in opposition to this. The good news of the cross is that no one culture can feel superior to another. The good news of the resurrection is that there is abundant life offered to people of all creeds and none, and there is a Christian community that embraces all where everyone can feel secure and valued.
