This morning, we opened Matthew 9 in the wake of a difficult week in our city. Jesus moves through all the ordinary towns and villages, looks at the harassed and helpless crowds, and responds not with distance or despair but with compassion — because he sees not a crisis but a harvest. This City is our home, and the call on the church has not changed: to see our city the way Christ sees it, to pray to the Lord of the harvest, and then to go. Full service here:

Let us all join in prayer for our city.

As people of goodwill, working together for safer, stronger, kinder communities - we pray.

On this ST BARNABAS' DAY, please join with us in praying for our brothers and sisters in our neighbouring parish of St Paul and St Barnabas, Belfast:

Gracious God, on this feast of St Barnabas, your faithful servant, who was a "son of encouragement" and a steadfast companion in the gospel, we give you thanks for the witness of our neighbours in the parish of St Paul & St Barnabas.
Bless their life, their worship, and their work. Strengthen their ministries of welcome, teaching, and compassion. Prosper every act of service done in Christ’s name, and let their church be a place where many find hope, healing, and a home in your love.
Pour out your Spirit upon Andrew, their minister, and upon all who lead, serve, and support the mission of that parish. Give them Barnabas’ gifts of generosity, courage, and encouragement, that they may build up your people and bear faithful witness to the risen Lord.
Unite us in friendship and partnership in the gospel, that together we may shine the light of Christ in this community and beyond; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Due to the ongoing situation in the city, we have taken the decision to cancel Gather tonight (Bible Study & Prayer) at St Paul’s & St Barnabas. This is simply a precaution, and we encourage everyone to stay safe, look out for one another, and continue to pray for peace, justice, wisdom, and calm across our city.

God of peace and justice, draw near to Belfast tonight.

O God, who art the author of peace and lover of concord, in knowledge of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service is perfect freedom: Defend us, thy humble servants, in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in thy defense, may not fear the power of any adversaries; through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Psalm 33 is one of those passages that meet you wherever you are. On the mountain top, on the hillside, or in the dark valley — the call is the same: praise. Not as a way of ignoring what is hard, but as a way of lifting our eyes to the God who is still the same in the middle of it. This week's blog post works through the four movements of the Psalm — the joy of worship, the God we worship, the security that comes from knowing he is in control and sees each of us individually, and the hope that a life of praise produces. If you are in a season of change or uncertainty, or just want to go deeper into this morning's Psalm, the full post is linked below:

What are we to do when things change? When things that once were are no longer, when normal becomes a memory, and when the things that we have gotten used to become things we miss and long for? It …

This morning we opened Psalm 33; a command to praise God in every season, not because our circumstances are easy, but because the God we worship is still the same. He made the heavens by the breath of his mouth, he frustrates the schemes of nations to fulfil his own plans, and his eye is on each of us individually in the middle of whatever we are carrying. The remedy the Psalmist prescribes for the difficult seasons of life is not distraction or looking back — it is worship. The service is now streaming on our YouTube channel:

This morning at St Paul & St Barnabas, we gather for Holy Communion at 10:30AM, and we would love you to be with us.

We are in Psalm 33, a passage that speaks straight to the heart of what it means to worship God when life is hard, and things have changed around us. The Psalmist's answer is simple and profound: we worship. Not because everything is easy, not because we have all the answers, but because the God we gather around is still the same. His word is still right and true. His unfailing love still fills the earth. And his goodness is still worth singing about.

All are warmly welcome. 🙏
