🫖 Brews Brothers ☕️

Eric Woods returned to the Brews today to deliver a very informative talk about the origins and development of the Asian trade route that was christened ‘The Silk Road’.
This dates back to Marco Polos time (13c.) and in fact became an outlet for much more than silk Items such as paper, spices, jewellery, medicines and clothing found their way west. In fact two items have been discovered in Cork and Tipperary and are in Dublin museum.

Some nice words from Christian Aid Ireland

Cregagh Presbyterian Church gave a warm, east Belfast welcome to our Church Project Officer Suzanne Simpson (centre) when she came along to speak at their Christian Aid Week service. The church held a coffee morning before and after their service to raise funds to support our work, with croissants, scones and tray bakes on offer. Church members who didn’t have time to stay behind for coffee were offered a goodie bag to bring home.

Adding together the CA envelopes and the coffee morning donations, Cregagh Presbyterian Church has raised more than £1,000 this year, with donations still coming in.

We are very grateful to the Minister, Rev Edward McKenzie and to our former rep at Cregagh, Sandra Harper (right) for the love they show for people living in poverty and crisis. We are also grateful to our rep Barbara Dunlop (not pictured) for everything she does for us at Cregagh.

🫖 Brews Brothers ☕️

Eric Woods gave a most informative talk this week about Samuel Davidson and the company he founded -the Sirocco Works.
🇮🇳 He also covered Davidson's early days in India and his involvement in the tea industry 🫖

One sad note, one son died at an early age and the other was killed on day one of the Somme.

The large fans made by Sirocco were exported all over the world including being installed in the basement of the RVH.

🫖 Brews Brothers ☕️

The Brews were very grateful today to Aiden Campbell who came to the rescue by stepping in at very short notice when the scheduled speaker went down with the flu.

As always Aiden gave an excellent talk, this time about East Belfast and it's role in Hitler's downfall

☕️ Rev Edward also reminded the audience about the Christian Aid fundraiser on Sunday 10 May 📆
