We were delighted to welcome Al Byrne from Dublin to the Frassati Fellowship last night. A young professional, committed Catholic and motivational speaker, Al spoke with honesty and conviction about authentic masculinity and the call to live as men of virtue.

His reflections struck a chord and gave rise to thoughtful and meaningful conversation among the men present. An encouraging evening of fraternity, faith and good discussion.

Please keep in your prayers all those taking part in the Priestly Vocations Retreat this weekend, especially the men from the Frassati Fellowship at Queen’s who are discerning the Lord’s call.

We accompany them with our prayers and friendship, asking the Lord to guide their hearts with clarity, courage, and generosity.

Please keep in your prayers nine men from our Chaplaincy community who are taking part this weekend in an inter-diocesan vocations retreat at the Drumalis Retreat Centre in Larne.

These men, drawn from the dioceses of Clogher, Derry, Down and Connor, Dromore, and Southwark, are among those prayerfully discerning God’s call in their lives.

We ask that they — and all taking part — will be supported by the grace of the Holy Spirit as they listen more deeply to the Lord and consider whether he may be calling them to serve God and his Church as priests.

Please remember them in your prayers this weekend.

Members of the Frassati Fellowship were grateful to attend the powerful evening with Sam Goodwin at this year’s 4 Corners Festival Belfast.

Sam’s account of being taken hostage in Syria was sobering, courageous and deeply human. What struck many of us was not simply the ordeal itself, but the resilience, faith and clarity that emerged through it. It was a reminder that Christian brotherhood is forged not in comfort, but in perseverance, hope and trust when circumstances are stripped back to the essentials.

Welcome back to Queen’s to all those who’ve been returning over these days — we hope the new semester is beginning gently for you.

As we shared with you before we broke for Christmas, Chaplaincy reopens tomorrow, Monday 12 January, when our weekday Mass schedule resumes at 42 University Road.

Our first Sunday Mass of the semester will be on Sunday 25 January at 8pm in the University’s Lanyon Building (the late resumption of Sunday Mass is due to the availability of the venue — thank you for your understanding).

We’re also delighted to say that Mosaic Café reopens on Tuesday 13 January, serving great coffee, warm lunches and home-baked treats — just the thing to help ease the January blues.

You’re very welcome to reconnect with us as you settle back in.

The men of the Frassati Fellowship were delighted to share in the joy of the recent marriage of Shannon Campbell and David Goodwin of the Belfast Giants.

We are grateful for David’s faithful leadership of the Fellowship and his encouragement of men in prayer, friendship and vocational discernment, and for all that Shannon gives so generously to the wider Chaplaincy community. We wish them every happiness and blessing as they begin married life together.

We were really encouraged to see members of our men’s group lend a hand to the artisans who have come to renew our Chapel at the heart of the University. It was good to see them give their time so generously, and to welcome our friends from Italy as they begin their work. Moments like these show the strength of our community in a simple, practical way.
