Rest in Peace - Fr Kieran O'Mahony OSA
It was with deep sadness that we learned of the death this morning of our great ally and friend, Augustinian Priest and Scripture Scholar, Fr. Kieran O’Mahony, OSA.
Since the launch of the Jesuit Centre in Belfast Fr. Kieran has supported us with seasonal courses on Scripture and he has warmed us with friendship and humour.
Kieran has been ill for quite a while, but he persisted with his unique ministry of opening the Sacred Scriptures to us all, making the frequent train journey from Dublin to Belfast or joining us online.
His talents were too numerous to count: scholar, writer, musician, web-expert, cyclist, fund-raiser, preacher, tireless discoverer of goodness and revealer of God.
At his recent Golden Jubilee of Ordination celebrations on 28th June in his native Co. Cork, underneath an icon of St. Augustine, he quoted from The Confessions:
"Lord, you are great!
And worthy of our praise!
Your strength and wisdom are beyond measure.
We long to praise you,
Though we are burdened by our mortality."
No longer burdened by his mortality may Kieran’s spirit soar and know, in the words of his beloved brother Aidan, the most perfect peace.
Because, as the quote continues:
"For you have so made us that
We long for you,
And our heart is restless
Until it rests in you."
We offer our condolences to all Kieran's family, his confreres, colleagues and friends, and all whose lives he touched.
