Join the BJC in attending- Church at the Crossroads | Belfast

How should Christians respond to the realities in the Holy Land?
This November, Church at the Crossroads comes to Belfast, bringing Palestinian and local theologians, journalists and Church leaders together with the wider Christian community to listen, learn and consider what a faithful, Christ-centred witness requires in this moment.

Speakers will include recent visitor to the Belfast Jesuit Centre; theologian, Sam Munayer; Munther Isaac, Anton Deik, Trevor Morrow and many more.

This is an invitation to engage difficult questions, hear from Palestinian Christians whose communities have followed Jesus for generations, and reflect on what Scripture, discipleship and the call to peacemaking mean in the midst of suffering and conflict.

Biblically grounded.
Christ-centred.

Our Faith & Film Club returns this autumn with two of Pope Leo’s favourite films:
* Life Is Beautiful
* Ordinary People.

Each evening includes a screening, light refreshments, and a short reflective conversation.

Life Is Beautiful invites us into Guido’s tender, imaginative world as he shields his son from the horrors of war; inviting us to notice how hope, humour, and love become acts of resistance in the face of suffering.

Ordinary People invites us into the fragile landscape of a family navigating grief and guilt; inviting us to notice how vulnerability, truth‑telling, and the slow work of healing shape the movements of the human heart.

Diocesan Role within the BJC

The Diocese of Down and Connor is seeking to recruit into a 2-year Fixed Term Contract role as Pastoral Ministry Co-Ordinator based within the Jesuit Centre at 193-195 Donegall Street, Belfast, BT1 2FL.

The Pastoral Ministry Co-Ordinator will support the Director of the Belfast Jesuit Centre & Chaplain to the Ulster University, Belfast. The role holder will help nurture the emerging community involved in the growing programme of formation initiatives and offer pastoral, spiritual and community support to students of all faith backgrounds and none.

This is an exciting opportunity where you will be at the heart of creating opportunities for people to feel supported in their spiritual lives and be empowered to serve others. You will design and deliver pastoral programmes, nurture volunteers, and offer spaces of welcome, reflection, and renewal.

RCIA

Thinking about becoming Catholic, or want to deepen your understanding of the faith?

The Diocesan RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a journey of faith, formation, and community for adults wishing to explore the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. It is open to anyone unbaptised, those baptised in another Christian tradition, or Catholics wishing to reconnect with their faith.

The 2026-2027 programme begins on Wednesday 23rd September and runs weekly from 6.30 pm to 8.00pm in St Mary's Hall, Chapel Lane, Belfast.

Sessions include prayer, teaching, discussion, and time for questions.

Spouses, fiancés, and friends are also very welcome to attend alongside participants.

All are welcome, whether you are exploring faith for the first time or returning after time away.

As a genocide continues to unfold in Gaza, the West Bank is enduring increasing violence, perpetrated by settlers and the IOF. Christian communities in the illegally Occupied Palestinian Territories find themselves in existential crisis; facing the real possibility that their presence in the land where Christ was incarnated, lived, died and rose again, will be erased.

"A Jerusalem Voice for Justice: an ecumenical witness for equality and a just peace in Palestine/Israel" has issued the following appeal. Please share widely and do what you can to raise awareness of the plight of all those threatened by illegal Israeli expansion.

Rest in Peace - Fr Kieran O'Mahony OSA

It was with deep sadness that we learned of the death this morning of our great ally and friend, Augustinian Priest and Scripture Scholar, Fr. Kieran O’Mahony, OSA.

Since the launch of the Jesuit Centre in Belfast Fr. Kieran has supported us with seasonal courses on Scripture and he has warmed us with friendship and humour.

Kieran has been ill for quite a while, but he persisted with his unique ministry of opening the Sacred Scriptures to us all, making the frequent train journey from Dublin to Belfast or joining us online.

His talents were too numerous to count: scholar, writer, musician, web-expert, cyclist, fund-raiser, preacher, tireless discoverer of goodness and revealer of God.

At his recent Golden Jubilee of Ordination celebrations on 28th June in his native Co. Cork, underneath an icon of St. Augustine, he quoted from The Confessions:

"Lord, you are great!
And worthy of our praise!
Your strength and wisdom are beyond measure.
We long to praise you,
Though we are burdened by our mortality."

No longer burdened by his mortality may Kieran’s spirit soar and know, in the words of his beloved brother Aidan, the most perfect peace.

Because, as the quote continues:

"For you have so made us that
We long for you,
And our heart is restless
Until it rests in you."

We offer our condolences to all Kieran's family, his confreres, colleagues and friends, and all whose lives he touched.
