🌍 World Mission Sunday 2026 – Celebrating 100 Years

Today, the Church throughout the world celebrates World Mission Sunday, marking 100 years since its establishment by Pope Pius XI in 1926.

This special day reminds us that we are all called to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, not only through our words, but through our actions, kindness, compassion and service to others.

This year’s theme, chosen by Pope Leo XIV, is “One in Christ, United in Mission.” It reminds us that, united in Christ, we are all part of the Church’s mission to bring God’s love, hope and peace to the world.

In a special way, we remember young people throughout the world, praying that they may experience God’s love, discover hope for the future and recognise their own calling to make a difference in the lives of others.

May we too recognise that we are all called to be missionaries of hope, sharing God’s love through our actions in our families, friendships and communities.

One in Christ, United in Mission.

Today we celebrate the memorial of St. Ignatius, Bishop of Antioch, who died a martyr in Rome around the year 107. He urged Christians to unity in and through the Eucharist and around their local Bishop.

A Word of God from today’s Mass:

on the lips of children and of babes.”

📖 Luke 12:1–7
In a world where it can be easy to feel overlooked, Jesus reminds us that every life matters to God.
He knows us more deeply than we know ourselves. He sees our worries, understands our struggles, and never loses sight of us. Even the smallest sparrow is remembered in His care — how much more are we, His beloved children?
Faith doesn’t mean we will never feel afraid. It means we can bring our fears to God, trusting that we are not facing life alone.
Today, remember that you are known, valued and loved by God.
And if you meet someone who seems lonely or forgotten, take a moment to remind them through your kindness that they matter too.

Today we honour St Teresa of Ávila, a woman whose deep friendship with Christ transformed the Church.
She teaches us that true prayer is not found in words alone, but in surrender — a quiet resting in God’s love that brings strength, peace, and courage to act.
🙏 Prayer
Lord, you filled St Teresa with your Spirit of love and wisdom.
Grant that through her example we may learn to seek you within our hearts,
to persevere in faith through every trial,
and to serve others with joy born of prayer.
Through Christ our Lord.

Let us keep Pope Leo XIV close to our hearts and in our prayers as he recovers from his recent surgery. We pray that the Lord will watch over him, restore his health and give him renewed strength to continue his ministry of faith, hope and love.. Amen.

Today’s Gospel reminds us that faith must be more than following rules or maintaining appearances. Jesus challenges us to look at what truly matters: justice, compassion and the love of God.
Our faith is revealed not only in our prayers or the words we speak, but in how we treat others — especially those who are struggling, overlooked or carrying heavy burdens.
True Christian service isn’t about status or recognition. It’s about standing alongside others, offering a helping hand, and making life a little easier for those around us.
💭 Today’s reflection: Am I practising justice and love, and helping to lighten the burdens of those around me?
May our faith be seen in the kindness we offer and the love we put into action.

🙏 MORNING PRAYER – A GENEROUS HEART 🙏

Lord Jesus, help us to look beyond appearances and see what truly matters in our hearts.

❤️ Cleanse us of selfishness, pride and judgement. Teach us to be generous, compassionate and grateful for the blessings we receive.

May our faith be seen not just in our words, but in the kindness we show, the forgiveness we offer and the love we share.

🙏 Lord, create in us generous hearts, so that through our words and actions, others may encounter Your goodness.

🙏 Let Us Pray for Pope Leo XIV 🙏

Pope Leo XIV has announced that he will undergo surgery in the coming days.

As a parish community, let us keep Pope Leo in our prayers, asking the Lord to guide the hands of his medical team, bless him with a successful operation and grant him a speedy recovery.

❤️ Lord, watch over Pope Leo and give him strength, comfort and healing.

We are truly blessed to welcome a First-Class Relic of St Carlo Acutis to St Joseph’s Church this morning.

The relic will be present during Mass at 9.15am and will remain in the church until 11.00am.

What a wonderful opportunity for our parish community to come together in prayer. Let us place Pope Leo, our parish, our families and all our needs into the loving care of St Carlo Acutis, asking for his prayers and intercession.
