Sacred Heart Novena - 4th to 12th June
It is with great joy as a diocese we celebrate the Novena to The Sacred Heart. The Sacred Heart Novena invites you to nine days of prayer, cumulating in the celebration of the Feast of the Sacred Heart. Come to Me. These words of Jesus are among the most tender in all of the Gospels. They are not a command but an invitation – offered freely, offered personally, offered to each one of us.

JUNE | MONTH OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS
Here are three powerful, traditional prayers you can pray throughout the month of the Sacred Heart:
1️⃣ Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
"O most holy Heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore Thee, I love Thee, and with a lively sorrow for my sins, I offer Thee this poor heart of mine. Make me humble, patient, pure, and wholly obedient to Thy will. Grant, good Jesus, that I may live in Thee and for Thee.
Protect me in the midst of danger; comfort me in my afflictions; give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, Thy blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death. Within Thy Heart I place my every care. In every need let me come to Thee with humble trust saying, “Heart of Jesus, help me.” Amen."
2️⃣ Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus (by St. Margaret Mary Alacoque)
"O Sacred Heart of Jesus, to Thee I consecrate and offer up my person and my life, my actions, trials, and sufferings, that my entire being may henceforth only be employed in loving, honoring, and glorifying Thee. This is my irrevocable will, to belong entirely to Thee, and to do all for Thy love, renouncing with my whole heart all that can displease Thee.
I take Thee, O Sacred Heart, for the sole object of my love, the protection of my life, the pledge of my salvation, the remedy of my frailty and inconstancy, the reparation for all the defects of my life, and my secure refuge at the hour of my death. Be Thou, O Most Merciful Heart, my justification before God Thy Father, and screen me from His anger which I have so justly merited. Amen."
3️⃣ Short Daily Invocation to the Sacred Heart
"Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, Thy Kingdom come!"

❤️ These prayers are perfect for daily devotion—perhaps in the morning, during Adoration, or with your family. Consider enthroning an image of the Sacred Heart in your home this month!
May the loving Heart of Jesus bless you and your loved ones abundantly.

🌍🙏 ROSARY FOR PEACE 🙏🌍

Pope Leo XIV has appealed for peace throughout the world. To mark the conclusion of the Marian Month, the Holy Father will preside over the recitation of the Holy Rosary at the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in the Vatican Gardens on Saturday, 30 May, at 7.00pm.

All people and all Shrines throughout the world, are invited to join him in praying the Rosary. In our Family of Parishes, the Rosary will be prayed at 6.00pm in St Agnes’ and after the 6.00pm Vigil Mass in St Joseph’s Hannahstown.

All are warmly welcome to join us as we pray together for peace in our world. 🕊️

Our Lady of Peace, pray for us.

On the Solemnity of Pentecost, which brings the Easter season to its close, Pope Leo XIV celebrated Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica, reflecting on the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of peace, mission, and truth. The Pope said the Paraclete continues to “enlighten minds and instill new vitality in our hearts,” transforming history and opening it to salvation. He reminded the faithful that the whole Church is called to bear witness to the Gospel with joy and hope. Concluding his homily, Pope Leo prayed that the Holy Spirit may save humanity from war, misery, and sin through the omnipotence of love.

St Peter’s Cathedral Singing Event
Primary 5 pupils had a wonderful morning at St. Peter’s Cathedral yesterday. We joined together with five other schools to sing a variety of songs. They ranged from hymns, to the Lion King and The Beatles. We sang in rounds and even did sign language when we sang “True Colours” by Cyndi Lauper. One child from each school had the chance to play the cathedral organ. Four students were awarded school to the summer school at St Peter’s this year. Thank you to our past pupil James and Rebecca for leading this brilliant project.

SACRED HEART NOVENA 2026
Down & Connor Diocesan Novena to The Sacred Heart
June 4th to June 12th, the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
They are not a command but an invitation - offered freely, offered personally, offered to each one of us.
To set aside time each day for prayer is to say yes to that invitation.
It is a simple act, yet a profound one. In the busyness of our lives - with all their demands, their joys, and their anxieties - to pause and turn our hearts toward Jesus is itself a form of love.
The prayers will be available in a booklet you can pick up at Mass or read online; it will also include a piece of scripture and a reflection for each day for those who wish to go a little deeper. The images used in this year’s Novena book are by students from our schools from across the diocese. Bishop Alan’s hope is that this novena will be prayed either individually or together by parishes, groups, schools or families. Even young children can join in with the short prayers!
