But Jonathan had not heard his father charge the people with the oath; therefore he stretched out the end of the rod that was in his hand and dipped it in a honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his countenance brightened. .

𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞
In the Bible, honey is often used as a metaphor for God’s word. As we established yesterday, it is the act of meditating on God’s word that enables our spirit man to taste the Word of God. This is because meditation is to our spirit body what digestion is to our physical body. However, the believer must be careful to only meditate on God’s word. In today’s Bible reading when Jonathan tasted the honey his countenance brightened. Other versions of the Bible say, when he ate the honey: his energy was renewed (CSV), he was revived (EHV), his energy was restored (AMP), his eyes received sight (GNV), it gave him new life (NIRV). This makes us understand that meditating on God’s word causes our spiritual strength to be renewed, revives us, restores our energy, opens the eyes of our spirit man and enables us to access the living word. Faith is spiritual strength & energy Also, since the Bible also says that, ‘A man’s wisdom makes his face shine’ (𝐄𝐜𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝟖:𝟏𝐛), this tells us that meditating on God’s word also enables us to access the wisdom of God. 𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞
David said his meditation of Him (God) shall be sweet. We meditate on God by meditating on His word. Since Jesus, the Word of God, is also known as the Bread of Life, we can use physical bread to help us understand what David was saying. When we chew bread salivary amylase, the enzyme in saliva breaks the bread down into simple carbohydrates which helps digestion. Simple carbohydrates are sweet to the taste and also provide energy to our physical body. Similarly, meditating on God’s word, which is our spiritual bread, likewise facilitates the absorption of the word into our spirit, making it sweet to our spirit man. Meditating on God’s word also provides our spirit man with energy, this energy is called faith. Just as the energy derived from physical bread enables us to move things & do exploits in the physical realm, similarly, faith, which is the energy released to our spirit through meditating on God’s word, enables us to move things and do exploits in the spiritual realm. Also, since 𝐏𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐦 𝟑𝟒:𝟖𝐚 says, ‘Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good’, we similarly understand that it is meditating on God’s word that enables our spirit man to ‘taste and see’ God’s word. This means that meditating on God’s word also causes the eyes of our spirit man to open and see God’s goodness. Start meditating on God’s word today!

I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind (declare to be improper and unlawful) on earth must be what is already bound in heaven; and whatever you loose (declare lawful) on earth must be what is already loosed in heaven.

The Bible makes us understand that man was created to do God’s will on earth as it is in heaven. To enable this to happen, Adam and Eve were given authority over the earth and everything in it. This is why the Bible says, God has given the earth to the children of men. Since authority is delegated power, when Adam sinned, his covenant with God was broken and Adam handed his authority over to Satan, which means Adversary, who became the ‘god of this world’. Adam’s sin gave Satan the legal right to oppose God on earth. However, Jesus’ death and resurrection restores all who believe in Him to man’s original position with God, this is why Jesus is also known as the last Adam (1 Corinthians 15:45). Today’s Bible not only demonstrates Jesus’ deity, in that He is the One who hands back to those who declare He is the Son of God, the authority the first Adam lost in the Garden of Eden. It also demonstrates how we are to exercise this authority: through the speaking and declaration of God’s revealed will on earth. This requires the revelation of God’s will and purpose to the believer through the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

The Bible tells us that there are three heavens, the first heaven is what is known as the firmament (or sky) above the earth while the third heaven is God’s abode, the second heaven is the space between the first and third heaven and comprises outer space. God’s purpose in creating man was for man to rule on earth through fellowship & obedience to God. This is seen in the Lord’s Prayer, which says, ‘Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven’ (𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐰 𝟔:𝟏𝟎𝐛). This is what Adam and Eve did before the fall as God would visit them in the Garden of Eden. This fellowship with God was Spirit to spirit, as ‘God is Spirit’ (𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝟒:𝟐𝟒𝐚). This relationship was restored through Jesus’ death and resurrection and this is why every believer must cultivate the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of Truth and who reveals to us the mind and purposes of God. It is only when we do this that we are able to understand God’s will and purposes for our life, and bring it to pass through the power, gifts and fruit of the Holy Spirit. If you have not reconciled with God, today is that day! Please pray like this: I believe in my heart that Jesus died on the cross for my sins and confess with my mouth that He rose again on the third day. Forgive all my sins and trespasses and receive me as Your child, in Jesus name I have prayed.

What fills the heart will always manifest on the outside of a person. Remember when your heart is filled with joy, you just have to say something, whether shout, sing, dance or even cry etc. Also when the heart is full of sorrow, the head droops, body posture changes etc. in today’s Bible reading, King David reveals another secret on how we can provoke encounters with God. We do this by filling our heart with God’s word. Some of us are comforted and satisfied by holding a Bible in their hand or putting it under their pillow at night. This is a deception from the devil. God’s word is meant for the heart (spirit) and mind (soul) of man. When we read and memorise, meditate & pray God’s word, it will multiply and fill our heart (spirit) and mind (soul) and the effects will be seen on the outside. Firstly, it will change our speech and we will begin to speak God’s word over our life and into the situations and challenges we face. As we speak God’s word from our heart, it also changes us on the inside because our tongue is the pen that indelibly writes on the tablet of the heart, as we become what we say about ourselves.
𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫: Father God, as I enter June, I am determined to be serious with Your word. Change me as I fill my heart with Your word, in Jesus’ name.

The Bible clearly teaches that there is an invisible (spiritual) realm which is eternal. Which means that it is not subject to decay, ageing or physical death as we find in the natural (visible) realm. Death in the spiritual realm is eternal (unending) separation from God. The spiritual world contains many things we find in the physical realm but they are far superior. For example, there are mansions in heaven. These mansions are not empty, for there is furniture in heaven, after all we know that Jesus is seated at the right hand of God Father and a throne is a type of chair. Also, 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟏𝟗:𝟗 talks about the marriage feast of the Lamb, ‘Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’ ” And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.” ‘ This tells us there are chairs, tables and food in heaven. The heavenly Jerusalem has streets for 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟐𝟏:𝟐𝟏 says, The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass. God’s abode is known as the third heaven.

In today’s Bible reading, speaking of Jesus, the Bible tells us that all things were created by Him. This verse not only places Jesus over and above all creation, it also affirms the deity of Jesus as Creator of all things in heaven and earth, whether visible or invisible. This is in line with 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝟏:𝟏-𝟑, which says, ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 𝟐 He was in the beginning with God. 𝟑 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made’. Colossians 1:16 also makes us understand that in both the natural (visible) and supernatural (invisible) realms there are thrones, dominions, principalities and powers. Since the Word of God created the visible & invisible realms, of necessity, both the natural and supernatural realms are in subjection to Jesus, the Word of God. This is why believing and speaking God’s word is essential if we are to overcome the trials of life.

Unforgiveness in the heart also hinders us from receiving God’s mercy. This is because forgiving another person their trespass is an act of mercy, while refusing to forgive is seen as wickedness, as 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐰 𝟏𝟖:𝟑𝟐-𝟑𝟑 says, Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. 𝟑𝟑 Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you? This means that when we are merciful to others, we actually position ourselves to receive God’s mercy and when we refuse to be merciful to others, we disqualify ourselves from receiving God's mercy. Jesus’ example on the cross where He forgave those who mistreated Him despite them not asking for forgiveness is also a lesson for every believer. We too must be ready to forgive in our heart even when those who wrong us do not ask for forgiveness.
