"As man’s history progresses and we come eventually to learn about the kingdom of God it looks as though it is too late. Sins press so heavily upon mankind that we feel the kingdom cannot be for us. But, of course, the joy that is revealed to us in the word of God is that anyone can have a new beginning. By faith and baptism the past is blotted out and we come from the waters of baptism as newborn babes. It is as though a great burden has been lifted from our shoulders. We are new men and women in Christ. We have a new page, a new book, in which to write: “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life … For he that is dead is freed from sin.”
Harry Tennant, Comfort of the Scriptures.
