Two members of our choir (Director of Music Aaron Nihal King and alto Harriet Lawson) will be playing a new piano duet in our recital tomorrow, 12.30pm! This new piece has been written specially for this occasion!

Aaron Nihal King is a composer, conductor and performer with work spanning a wide range of musical genres. Aaron has been Director of Music and Organist at St. Mary & All Saints Church since 2021, having originally moved to Beaconsfield to study Composing for Film & Television at the prestigious National Film & Television School. His film credits as an orchestrator include the final two Mission: Impossible films, The Marlow Murder Club, and Netflix series ‘The Dinosaurs’, and he has composed music for several award winning short films. Meanwhile his choral music has been performed by ensembles such as Tenebrae and The Bach Choir, and he was the composer for ‘Come Dine With Me: The Musical’.

Harriet Lawson studied piano, harpsichord and voice at the Royal College of Music, later training as a postgraduate répétiteur at the RCM Opera School. She spent 35 years based in Italy, working as a répétiteur and continuo player at major houses including Teatro Verdi (Trieste), Teatro Massimo (Palermo) and Teatro Piccolo (Milan), as well as the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. She has also collaborated with Glyndebourne, Radio France, Radio Suisse and Orchestra Verdi di Milano. Now back in the UK, Harriet continues to accompany, teach, and work when not tending to her garden or bees or daughter. She also sing with the Wooburn Singers and the choir of St Mary and All Saints.

We are very proud of our newly refurbished viewing platform at the top of the tower. After the steps broke we had to close down tower visits, but we are ship shape and ready for this year's Country Fair in August. Do come along, the views from the top are phenomenal.

As well as two Elenas, we also have two Andrews performing in our special lunchtime recital this Saturday (free entry, 12.30pm), celebrating the recent donation of a grand piano to the church!

Andrew Gallacher was the first prize winner at the Brighton and Hove Springboard Concerto Competition in 2016, where adjudicator Timothy Barratt praised his "imaginative playing" and "incisive control". He has since performed in numerous venues including the Wigmore Hall, St James’ Church Sussex Gardens, Faversham Assembly Halls, St Butolph Without Aldgate, St Luke’s Church Maidenhead (where he is a regular recitalist at their biannual music festival), All Saints Church Marlow, St George the Martyr in Borough (London) and United Reform Church Beaconsfield.

Andrew Melvin studied piano at the Royal Academy of Music with Rosemarie Wright and composition at Cambridge and Brunel Universities, gaining a PhD in composition. He specialises in 20th century and contemporary piano repertoire including his own piano compositions. Performances as a solo pianist include Finzi’s ‘Eclogue’ for piano and string orchestra with the Chandos Ensemble, the complete ‘Música Callada’ by Federico Mompou (Nagoya, Japan) and Kurtág ‘Games’ (Játékok) performed as part of ‘Touchdown’ educational dance project with English National Ballet at the Bloomsbury Theatre, London.
