key words that get to the heart of St Swithin's. As a church we want to...

✨ Happy New Year from St Swithin’s ✨

As we step into 2026, we do so with hope, expectation, and open hearts. A new year invites us to reflect, to look ahead, and to notice where God might be gently drawing us closer.

For those exploring faith – curious, questioning, or unsure – this is a safe place to wonder and to walk at your own pace. Faith isn’t about having everything figured out; it’s about making space to encounter God together.

And for those who feel called to go deeper with God, this year is an invitation to strengthen your relationship with Him: to pray more boldly, listen more closely, and allow your faith to be rooted and renewed. We long to be a church where depth and discipleship truly flourish.

We’re also excited about new changes to our building in the year ahead, improving hospitality and sound so that our space better reflects the warmth, welcome, and generosity of the God we worship.

Our prayer for 2026 is simple and bold: that all we are and all we do would be for the display of God’s splendour.

Wherever this year finds you, you are welcome here.

🎄✨ A Very Happy Christmas from St Swithin’s Walcot ✨🎄

As we celebrate this holy season, we remember the miracle at the heart of Christmas:
Jesus – hoped for, promised, prayed for… and worth the wait.

In a world that longs for light, peace and hope, God arrived not in haste or grandeur, but in humility and love. This Christmas, may we be reminded that God’s promises are never late, never forgotten, and always worth waiting for.

🌟 “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light.” (Isaiah 9:2)

Thank you for journeying with us through this Advent theme. We pray your homes are filled with joy, rest, and the deep peace that Christ brings.

✨ ADVENT 2025 — WORTH THE WAIT ✨

Advent slows us down and reminds us that some things — the best things — take time. And every year I’m drawn back to the Wise Men. These travellers saw a single star rise and somehow knew: This is it. This is the sign. The Saviour we’ve been waiting for has come.

So they set out.
Not for a weekend trip…
But for years.

Following a light in the dark, carrying questions, hope, and costly gifts — because they believed meeting Jesus would change everything. And they were right.
He was worth the journey. He was worth the wait.

And isn’t that the heart of Advent for us too?
We wait — not for an idea, not for a ritual, but for a Person.
A Saviour who steps into our world.
A Hope that doesn’t fade.
A King who invites each of us to come close.

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering,
“Is there more to life than this?”
the Christmas story answers with a resounding:
Yes. There is more. There is Jesus.

As we prepare our hearts this Advent, may we follow the light just as the Wise Men did — with curiosity, courage, and the hope that what we find will transform us.

And if you’re longing to explore these questions more deeply, we’d love to invite you to Alpha, starting in the New Year. A warm, open space to ask anything, discover who Jesus is, and maybe realise — like the Wise Men — that the journey is absolutely worth it.

🌟 Jesus is worth the wait.

✨ What a wonderful Craftmas! ✨

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday afternoon — it was such a joy to see the church filled with families, especially so many from our partner school, St Andrew’s Primary. The crafts were beautiful, the laughter was plentiful, and it truly felt like the start of advent!

A big thank you to Nicola for hosting with such creativity and warmth, and to Keith for leading our much-loved annual tradition of carols around the campfire. What a magical way to begin our Christmas celebrations at St Swithin’s. 🌟🔥🎶

We’d love to see you again this evening at 6:30pm for Carols and Mince Pies — all welcome!

🎄✨ Things are getting wonderfully Christmassy at St Swithin’s! ✨🎄

Here’s Bryony, our resident queen of festive cheer, bravely taking on the giant Christmas tree kindly donated to us this year. (Yes, it really is as tall as it looks. No, we still haven’t quite figured out how to get the star on top…)

We’re hoping Tim’s got his stilts ready — or that someone can lend him a very sturdy ladder — because that 20-foot tree is not for the faint of height. ⭐️😂

And while we’re all busy decking the halls, don’t forget…
✨ CRAFTMAS is this Saturday, 3–5pm!
Expect crafts, creativity, community, and carols in the yard to get you properly into the Christmas spirit.

Everyone welcome. Bring your best festive jumpers.

🎄✨ Craftmas at St Swithin’s! ✨🎄
Saturday 6th December • 3pm–5pm
Everyone welcome! 💛

Craftmas is one of our favourite community moments of the year — a joyful space where all ages, every generation, and every level of creativity come together around one table. From tiny hands making their first paper decorations to grandparents adding their festive flair, it’s a beautiful picture of what church family is all about. ❤️

We’ll have a lovely range of Christmas crafts for everyone, followed by carols in the garden to wrap up the afternoon with warmth and wonder. 🎶🌟

The Honey Café will be open in the crypt throughout the event, serving hot drinks and festive treats.

Come and share the creativity, the laughter, and the togetherness — our community really is what makes Craftmas so special. We can’t wait to see you! 🎁✨
