We all have something we can share.

A meal. Extra clothes. A few groceries. Things we may overlook every day can meet a real need for someone else.

Luke 3:11 reminds us that caring for our neighbors starts with being willing to share what we have.

The Salvation Army has co-signed an oral statement on contemporary forms of slavery and trafficking in persons. The statement was presented on 11 September 2026 to the 63rd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, during an interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur.

Delivered by Dr Janet Epp Buckingham, Director of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) Geneva Office, the statement focused on one of the continuing challenges in tackling human trafficking: identifying those who are being exploited.

During her Mayoral year, Cllr Jacky Tustain will be raising funds for a Community Chest to support local charities and community groups across the borough.

The focus is to help promote physical and mental wellbeing, so more people feel connected, supported and less isolated. From fitness sessions and mental health support to music, arts, and community events, the fund will help projects that bring people together and create a stronger, more positive borough.

Grants will be awarded to organisations delivering activities like:

🧎‍➡️exercise and wellbeing sessions
🎨arts, crafts, music, and dance groups
👨🏾‍👧🏾intergenerational projects
☕community festivals and inclusive events

The grants programme will be managed by Basingstoke Voluntary Action working with a Community Chest Grants Panel, chaired by the Mayor.

Joy, prayer and gratitude can become practices that shape how we see the day ahead. Scripture reminds us that these are not simply responses to what happens around us, but ways of staying rooted in God.

May this passage encourage you to pause, pray and look for something to be grateful for today.
