Prepare for the Tribulation

Read Matthew‬ ‭24:42-51

“Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals; and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, “Come and see.”” ‭‭- Revelation‬ ‭6‬:‭1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

- The events of Revelation 6 occur immediately after the Rapture and during the first half of the 7-year tribulation period
- They are kickstarted by the Lamb’s opening of the seals of the Book of Wrath
- The first four seals (conquest, war, famine and death) are ‘The Beginning of Sorrows’ which will run concurrently for a short duration (e.g. about 6 months), Matthew 24:4-8

The 1st Seal (Revelation 6:1-2)
- The White Horse: Conquest (empowered by an evil spirit) is released upon the earth. The Antichrist Conqueror will go forth to conquer the Middle-East and the kingdoms of this world

The 2nd Seal (Revelation 6:3-4)
- The Red Horse: War (empowered by an evil spirit) is released upon the earth. There will be worldwide fighting and killing (both civil and international)

The 3rd Seal (Revelation 6:5-6)
- The Black Horse: Famine (empowered by an evil spirit) is released upon the earth. There will be worldwide food scarcity

The 4th Seal (Revelation 6:7-8)
- The Pale Horse: Death (empowered by two evil spirits: Death and Hades) is released upon the earth. A quarter of the world’s population will be killed

“When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held.” ‭‭- Revelation‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

- The 5th Seal is ‘The Cry of The Martyrs’, Matthew 24:9-10
- This is referring to the persecution and martyrdom of believers in Christ during the 1st half of tribulation period. These will consist mostly of unfaithful believers who were left behind after missing the first flight of ‘the Rapture’. These foolish virgins (believers) will repent and now enter the kingdom through the second flight of ‘martyrdom’
- If you are being unfaithful with your relationship and service to Christ, you will miss the Rapture. You can as well begin to prepare for the Tribulation, Matthew 25:1-30, Revelation 2:22, 3:3,10-11

“And they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”” ‭‭- Revelation‬ ‭6‬:‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

- The unresurrected souls of the tribulation martyrs (now under the golden altar in the Heaven Temple) will petition God to avenge their blood on the unbelievers on earth who hated and killed them
- ‘How long’ implies that the ‘persecution and martyrdom’ of tribulation saints will continue for a long time (e.g. for a total of about 3 years after the Rapture)

“Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed.” ‭‭- Revelation‬ ‭6‬:‭11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

- The unresurrected souls of the tribulation martyrs were given the resting cover of a white robe (indicating the righteousness of Christ) and told to rest a little while longer until the completion of the martyrdom of the tribulation saints. This will then be followed by the judgement of the Great Day of Wrath as unveiled by the 7th Seal
- If you miss the Rapture due to your unfaithfulness, you will have to repent and ‘endure faithful’ under intense persecution and martyrdom in the tribulation period.

“I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind.” ‭‭- Revelation‬ ‭6‬:‭12‬-‭13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

- The 6th Seal is ‘Cosmic Signs’, which will all happen within a day (about 6 months to the end of the first half of the tribulation period), Matthew 24:29-30
- It starts with a great earthquake which indicates that the 6th Seal completes the 1st set of tribulation judgements
- The Sun turns to blackness, the Moon becomes like blood and the Stars fall across the sky like meteors. All the powers of the heavens will be shaken!

“Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place. And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!” ‭‭- Revelation‬ ‭6‬:‭14‬-‭16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

- When the sky receded as a rolled up scroll, what was revealed was a sign from Heaven
- The unbelieving people of the earth looked up and saw the sign of the Son of Man appear in Heaven as prophesied in Matthew 24:29-30
- They beheld the Throne and saw the Lamb in His power and glory. They saw His angry face and knew that the Wrath of the Lamb (i.e. the first 6 trumpet judgements) was about to be released
- They went to hide in underground bunkers and bomb shelters from the scary angry face of the Lamb

“For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”” ‭‭- Revelation‬ ‭6‬:‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

- The Great Day of Wrath refers to the aftermath of 7th Seal being opened in Revelation 8, Joel 2
- When the 7th Seal is opened, the contents of the sealed Book are revealed: which are ‘7 trumpets and 7 bowls’ of Wrath!

The True Riches of Heaven

“And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven?” ‭‭- Luke‬ ‭16‬:‭11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Why can I not serve both God and mammon, according to Luke 16:13?
- Because you will end up putting the interests of mammon above the things of God, Exodus 20:3
- Mammon represents the things of this world: money, possessions, fame, status, achievements, relationships, fashion, pleasure and whatever else is valued more than the Lord, Matthew 6:24 AMP, 1 John 2:15-17
- Mammonism is the pursuit of self rather than God, Matthew 16:24-27

Why did the rich man go to Hell, according to Luke 16:19-31?
- He was proud (arrogant and stubborn)
- He was selfish (mean and inconsiderate)
- He was covetous (stingy and/or greedy)
- He had no genuine compassion
- He neglected the weightier matters of the Law: justice, mercy and faithfulness, Matthew 23:23, Micah 6:8
- He was a religious hypocrite
- He trusted and served mammon rather than God!

Why did Lazarus make it to Paradise, according to Luke 16:19-31?
- He was humble (‘poor in spirit’), Matthew 5:3
- He persevered in righteousness despite his lack and suffering, Matthew 5:10
- He was hopeful and believing
- He refused to curse God or people
- He refused to be bitter and unforgiving
- He trusted and served God rather than mammon!

Why did Jesus share the story of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16:19-31?
- He was talking to the Pharisees who loved money and ridiculed his teachings, Luke 16:14-18
- The rich man was a Pharisee (religious hypocrite)!

How can I serve God rather than mammon?
- Serve God with your money (faithful tithing and generous giving), 1 Timothy 6:17-19
- Serve God with your time (regular attendance and punctuality at church meetings/activities)
- Serve God with your energy, talents, skills, resources and influence (starting from the church)
- Obey all the commandments of God (don’t pick and choose), 2 Timothy 3:16-17
- Put God first in all things!, Luke 16:10-15

What are the true riches of Heaven?
- Revelation 3:17-18
- Spiritual gold: Truth (sound doctrine), John 1:17, 8:31-32, 17:17, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Revelation 3:7,14
- Spiritual ‘white garments’: Righteousness (holiness), Matthew 5:6,8, Hebrews 12:14, Revelation 3:7, 19:8
- Spiritual ointment: Wisdom (revelation), Ephesians 1:17-19

“So I advise you to buy gold from me—gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see.” - ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3‬:‭18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

An Open Door Set Before You

““And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, ‘These things says He who is holy, He who is true, “He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens”:” - Revelation‬ ‭3‬:‭7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

⁃ Jesus introduces Himself to the church of Philadelphia as The Holy and True One. This emphasises ‘holiness and truth’ as an essential part of the identity of faithful believers, Hebrews 12:14
⁃ The key of David signifies the royal authority of Christ
⁃ Jesus not only opens the door of ‘kingdom advancement’ for the faithful, he can also shut the door on the unfaithful, Genesis 7:16, Matthew 25:10,29
⁃ There are some attractive doors that Jesus will have to shut down in your life, in order to save you from getting derailed from His purpose and plan

““I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.” ‭‭- Revelation‬ ‭3‬:‭8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

⁃ ‘An open door that no one can shut’ refers to opportunities for supernatural advancement. It also refers to the guarantee of being raptured, as described in Revelation 4:1
⁃ ‘A little strength’ refers to the small number of faithful believers as compared to the unfaithful
⁃ ‘Keeping His Word’ refers to faithful obedience
⁃ ‘Not denying His Name’ refers to faithful ‘stewardship and ambassadorship’
⁃ The reason for the open door is that despite your ‘constraints and challenges’, you have remained faithful in obedience and service to the Lord

“Indeed I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews and are not, but lie—indeed I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you.” ‭‭- Revelation‬ ‭3‬:‭9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

⁃ The Lord will ‘compensate, vindicate and elevate’ faithful believers in response to the ‘opposition and persecution’ they have ‘suffered and patiently endured’ from false believers, Matthew 5:10-12, 1 Peter 5:10-11

“Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.”
‭‭- Revelation‬ ‭3‬:‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

⁃ ‘Because you have kept the word of my patience (KJV)’ shows again that the condition for being raptured is faithfulness
⁃ A faithful believer is defined in Luke 8:15: “But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.”
⁃ ‭‭’To be kept from the hour of trial’ is to be raptured (sn**ched up) into Heaven before the worldwide tribulation, just as ‘Noah and his family’ were kept in the ark before the worldwide flood. This is modelled within the vision in Revelation 4:1

“Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown.” ‭- Revelation‬ ‭3‬:‭11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

⁃ Jesus is coming back suddenly! - to sn**ch (rapture) faithful believers up to Heaven, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
⁃ ‘Hold fast what you have’ refers to staying steadfast and enduring faithful to the end
⁃ ‘That no one may take your crown’ means that many who started well will lose their place, position or reward in Heaven because they did not endure faithful to the end, 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

“He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name.” ‭‭- Revelation‬ ‭3‬:‭12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

⁃ In making the statement ‘My God’ 4 times in this verse, Jesus is reminding faithful believers of the cross and the resurrection, Matthew 27:46, John 20:17
⁃ The climax of the fulfilment of why Jesus cried loudly ‘My God, My God’ at the cross is the eternal inheritance of all things by the faithful (overcoming) believer, Revelation 21:7
⁃ ‘To be a pillar in the temple of My God and go out no more’ refers to the place of raptured believers as angels in the throne room of God throughout the tribulation period, Revelation 5:10-12, Matthew 22:30
⁃ To write your name on something is a seal of ownership. The raptured faithful believer will have 3 names written on them to reflect their eternal identity: the name of God, the name of the city of God and the new name of Jesus

““He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ’” - Revelation‬ ‭3‬:‭13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

⁃ Those who have ears to hear should listen and take heed. The time to repent and be faithful is now. Some believers would take heed but many will not until it is too late

Heaven is the place where you experience the fullness of God’s presence - the fullness of love and goodness.
Hell is the place where you experience the absence of God’s presence - the absence of love and goodness.
Your eternal destination depends on whether you choose to trust and obey God (YHVH) and His Word (Jesus Christ) in this life or not.

The only way to achieve godly contentment is to put God first and every other thing second. Putting God first is the principle of the Sabbath (the first full day of man on earth). The Sabbath involves giving your time, energy, skills and money back to God in worship and service. The ratio of Sabbath is 1/7.
