It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Jesus called out with a loud voice, ‘Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.’ When he had said this, he breathed his last.

‭‭Luke‬ ‭23‬:‭44‬-‭46‬ ‭NIVUK‬‬

Good Friday, the day Jesus died. A day that can only be called good through the hope found in the darkness. Why not join us on Easter Sunday at 10am or 6pm to hear more about this hope, a hope found in the darkness. A hope that changed the world.

Exploring the Christian faith for the first time or revisiting the central questions?

Come along tonight, St Mary’s Basingstoke at 7.30pm for a relaxed evening looking at who the man Jesus was and what that means for us today.

Or join us for Christianity Explored, starting next Monday 26 Jan at 7.30pm. A six-week course that walks through the life of Jesus as told in the Gospel of Mark.

‘We’re John and Rachel, and our boys are Freddie (9) and Charlie (6).

We first came to St Mary’s when Freddie was born because we wanted to have him baptised. We joined a course to understand what it meant, and we didn’t expect it to change much beyond that.

But as we listened and talked things through, something clicked. Christianity didn’t feel like a fantasy story, or a try harder, be better message. It felt honest and realistic and it spoke to the questions we already had about life.

Over time, Christianity stopped being something we were offering for our children and became true for us. We found ourselves drawn to Jesus as someone we could trust, follow, and build our lives around.

St Mary’s has been our church home ever since. And one of our greatest joys now is seeing Freddie and Charlie starting to explore Jesus for themselves too - asking their own questions and beginning to discover who Jesus is.’

Real people, real stories. Join us on Sunday at 10am or 6pm to hear more encounters with Jesus!

Meet Tim, a member of the St Mary’s family, and take a look at a bit of his story. His encounter with Jesus.

‘I encountered Jesus for myself around the age of 16. Studying sciences at school I wanted to be sure that Christianity was compatible. I did lots of reading and was persuaded that it is, but it was seeing the lives of Christians I knew that made me want to know the person they followed. They seemed so kind, hopeful, confident. I wanted to be a part of that. At a youth service we were invited to take some time to sit quietly and pray. I did so, and discovered a real sense of peace knowing Jesus is alive and I could have a relationship with him, which has shaped my life ever since.’

Join us on Sunday at 10am or 6pm and follow along to hear more encounters with Jesus!
