A Chaplain’s Prayer: Lord, today I will encounter those struggling with life: the lost, the weary, the lonely. Amidst their pain and despair, help me to illuminate their lives with your kindness and compassion, let my words be encouraging and welcoming, and may they see in my eyes your love and acceptance.

Help me to point them towards moments of peace and show them glimmers of hope as they rest in your presence. May I take time today to remind all those I meet that they are a Child of God and loved beyond measure. Amen.

🙏 Sunday Morning at Barrow Methodist Church

Yesterday morning we gathered together for worship led by Richard Alderson.

Our readings followed the lectionary and brought us different reflections around God’s law and His guidance for our lives. Through scripture, prayer and worship, we were reminded that our faith isn’t simply something we hear about on a Sunday. It shapes the way we live, the choices we make and the way we love and care for one another.

And, of course, there was plenty of good singing too! 🎶

Thank you to Richard for leading our worship and to everyone who joined us.

Whatever your week holds, may we continue to look for God’s guidance and try to reflect His love in the way we live.

Everyone is always welcome at Barrow upon Humber Methodist Church. ❤️

Pray with us today.

Creative and radiant God, your strong and sure light is never overcome by darkness. May it be so in this our time.

Jesus Christ, the Light of the World, in your mercy and grace you surprisingly said to us, “You are the light of the world.” May it be so in this our time.

Spirit of light and love, kindle in us fresh urgency to love and serve the human family, to be amazed by creation and to care for it well, to pursue justice and offer mercy, to rejoice in receiving and sharing grace.

In confidence and hope, we pray. Amen.

Hope Morgan Ward, UMC Council of Bishops

What a joyful morning we shared at Barrow upon Humber Methodist Church today. ❤️

Our service was made especially meaningful as we celebrated the baptism of a little boy and, wonderfully, his father too. A beautiful moment for their family and for everyone gathered to share it with them.

Rev Robert led us in such a warm, humble and welcoming way, reflecting on Luke 18:15–17, where Jesus welcomes the children brought to him:

“Let the little children come to me…”

It felt particularly fitting as we were reminded that God’s welcome is for everyone, whatever our age and wherever we may be on our journey of faith.

With hymns chosen especially for the occasion and the church family gathered together, it was a morning filled with joy, welcome and hope.

We pray God’s blessing upon both father and son as they begin this new chapter of their journey together. 🙏

And, as always, our door is open. Whether you’ve been coming to church all your life, haven’t been for years, or have never stepped inside one before, you are very welcome here. ❤️

🌼🐝 The joy of the Lord is our strength.

In church today, we reflected on the difference between happiness and joy.

Happiness can depend on what is happening around us. It can come and go.

But the joy we receive from the Lord is something much deeper. ❤️

We were reminded that we can experience sadness, pain, loss and difficult times and still have joy within us. Not because everything is okay, but because our joy is rooted in God and His love for us.

Jesus calls us to remain in Him, to stay connected to Him, and through that relationship His joy lives within us.

Whatever season of life we may be walking through, today we were reminded of this wonderful promise:

“The joy of the Lord is your strength.”
Nehemiah 8:10 🙏❤️ With thanks to Rev Enid Knowles

🎶🏫 DO YOU REMEMBER SCHOOL ASSEMBLY? 🏫🎶

Sitting cross-legged on the floor… the piano starting up… and suddenly the whole school was belting out a song together! 😂

🎵 Morning Has Broken
🎵 Give Me Oil in My Lamp
🎵 All Things Bright and Beautiful
🎵 One More Step Along the World I Go

Well… we’ve been having a little idea at Barrow upon Humber Methodist Church. ❤️

What if, for one Sunday morning, we did something a bit different?

🏫🎶 THE BIG SCHOOL ASSEMBLY SINGALONG! 🎶🏫

A FREE community event where we can throw open our doors, welcome you in, meet you and have a brilliant nostalgic singalong to some of those songs and hymns we all remember from school assembly.

And this really IS for everyone!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Families are very welcome
❤️ You don’t need to be a regular churchgoer
🎶 You definitely don’t need to be able to sing!
☕ And we’ll have tea and coffee afterwards, so stick around for a cuppa, a chat and a chance for us all to get to know each other.

Just come through the doors, grab a seat and join in as loudly or quietly as you like.

We’d love this to be a real community morning, bringing different generations together to sing, laugh, reminisce and perhaps rediscover some of those wonderful words and messages we grew up with.

📅 We’re thinking about Sunday 11th October and, before we get completely carried away with the idea 😂, we’d LOVE to know if people would actually come!

❤️ WOULD THIS TEMPT YOU THROUGH THE DOORS?

If you think it might, fill in our very short form and we’ll keep you in the loop as our plans develop.

There’s absolutely no commitment. It just means you’ll be amongst the first to hear all the details. 👇

👉 KEEP ME IN THE LOOP fill in our no commitment form:

And we need your help with something else…

🎶 What was YOUR favourite school assembly song?

Tell us in the comments! 👇 We might just put the most popular ones on the song list. 🎹🎶

Come for the memories. Come for the music. Stay for a cuppa. ❤️

Today’s service took us to the familiar story of the feeding of the five thousand in Matthew’s Gospel.

The disciples looked at the crowd and saw an impossible task. They only had five loaves and two fish, and they couldn’t imagine how it would ever be enough. Jesus, however, didn’t focus on what they lacked. He simply asked them to bring what they had.

When we place what little we have into God’s hands, He can do far more with it than we could ever imagine. The miracle wasn’t just about feeding hungry people. It was about trust, generosity and the willingness to offer what we have, rather than worrying about what we don’t.

As Christians, we are all called to share. That may be our time, our talents, our encouragement, our resources or simply a listening ear. We may feel that our contribution is too small to make a difference, but God has a wonderful way of multiplying even the smallest acts of love and kindness.

May we leave today encouraged to bring what we have, however little it may seem, trusting that God can use it to bless many others.

“They all ate and were satisfied.” Matthew 14:20
