A free voluntary centre to help you either get going in family history research or help you with a problem. We do not do your research for you! We are situated off Abbey Road along a private drive in The Chuch of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. On the hospital side of the Strawberry lights, next to Happy Tots. On this page we post a few tips and news of what is going on. Just at the moment we h

ave had a few problems. Two of our expert consultants have passed on and two have been ill. Thus we have reduced opening hours at the centre. Call first to see if someone is there.

Well it is coming early in 2022. The bad news is, as in previous census releases, you will have to pay per view - £2.50 upwards. So maybe only use it when you are stuck on a branch/family. I have just one that I will HAVE to use it for.

I expect it will form part of a "free" (or otherwise) subscription in the future - when the microfilming and transcription costs have been paid!

In the most anticipated family history development since the online publication of the 1939 Register, Findmypast has been selected as The National Archives’ commercial partner to make the 1921 Census of England & Wales available online.

Well here is a tip that I did not know after 15 +years of family history!

The government records office has a search facility (I knew that!) that gives you the maiden name of the mother for births after 1837 and age at death on death certificates after that date. These 2 items are missing for many decades after 1837 on the other searchable indexes. Searching is free, certificates cost money.

This has sorted out a problem (with a marriage in 1828!) that I have been struggling with for 2 weeks.

I am pretty sure I saw something which says searching FMP military records is free tonight for Armistice Day.
