St Mary the Virgin, with St Paul the Apostle, Old Town, Barnsley St Mary's is the civic church of Barnsley, offering a place of worship, peace, tranquillity and a welcome in the town centre.

The Church building is open most days for public worship and private prayer. The Solemn Parish Mass on Sundays is at 11:00am. Weekday Mass on Mondays & Wednesdays at 12:00 noon, Thursdays at 7pm and Saturdays at 12:00 noon after which there is a Parish Surgery for all thoses enquiring about Christenings, Weddings or anything else. On the first Monday of the month we celebrate Mass in the Church Fi

elds Residential centre opposite the Parish Church at 11:00 instead of in the Church at 12:00. At St Paul's, Old Town, we celebrate a Solemn Mass on Sundays at 09:30am, and weekday Masses on Tuesdays at 10am and Fridays at 09:30am followed by refreshments. Everyone including families with children of all ages are welcome to any of our services and events. The parishes clergy are available for spiritual direction, Sacramental Confession and just to chat by private appointment or before or after any service or event, just ask.

It was lovely to welcome Bishop Stephen to St Paul the Apostle, Old Town for our Confirmation Service this Pentecost Sunday. We had a wonderful celebration of Mass in which eight children were Confirmed (three of whom were also Baptised). The children each received a Bible as a gift from the Church.
