The Voice of God: How Can We Be Sure?
Over the last month or so, as a church, we’ve been looking at Scripture and exploring different ways we can know the voice of God. Here are seven ways we’ve been exploring (there are others), and I’ve tried to keep it simple.
My heart is to encourage our congregation and train people to know God’s voice for themselves. You don’t want anyone else to be God’s voice to you. You want God to be the One who speaks, guides and leads you.
As pastors and leaders, our job is to lead people to Jesus so they can have a personal relationship with Him, hear His voice for themselves and be led by the Good Shepherd and stand on their on two feet and fulfill God will for them.
Don’t be the Christian who relies on your leader. Be the Christian who learns from your leader how to depend on Jesus and know His voice for yourself. That’s true discipleship.
Jesus told the disciples, “Follow me, and I will make you.” By God’s grace, my heart is to lead people to the Good Shepherd, Jesus, so they follow Him and know His voice for themselves.
Ultimately, when we stand before God, we will give an account of our obedience to His revealed will. You won’t be able to stand before Him and say, “My pastor said.” God will say, “What did I say?”
That’s why it matters that we learn to know what God is saying for ourselves.
