It it with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Scouter Margaret Kercher on 22nd November 2023 at the age of 97. Margaret started volunteering with 7th Banstead Cub Pack in 1947. She took over as Akela in 1966 and ran the Cub section for 22 years, only stepping down because the Scouts made leaders 'retire' at the age of 60 back in those days. Margaret stayed supporting the group as an instructor, eventually taking over as Group Treasurer - a role that she continued for 22 years.
Margaret had a huge influence on the lives of hundred of young scouters, and will be sorely missed by many at 7th Banstead and the wider Banstead District.
There is a service to celebrate the life of Margaret on Monday 11th December at 1.15pm at Banstead Methodist Church.
