We had such a great time at the Seafarers' Breakfast this morning! ⛵️ Thanks so much to the truly fantastic team who made everyone feel so welcome!

It was so popular in fact that Elliot had to rush off to raid Groomsport Spar across the street for bacon & bread rolls not just once, but twice, as we ran out of food! 🥓😅

The Eagle Wing weekend continues into tonight and tomorrow - for instance the open-air Seafarers' Service is at 2:30pm on Sunday near Cockle Row cottages, featuring Cottown Pipe Band and led jointly by Paul & Elliot 🙏
..or come and join us at our 10:30am service tomorrow as we have more refreshments in the halls after that too! ☕️

Come join us this Sunday for a special Open-air Seafarers' Service! ⛵️

This very special event is part of the Eagle Weekend as a joint service by ministers Paul (Groomsport Presbyterian) & Elliot, with representatives from Bangor RNLI and music accompanied by Cottown Pipe Band... Open to everyone, not only seafarers! ⚓️

Please pray for clear weather (unlike last year!) so we can do this outside near Cockle Row, overlooking Groomsport Harbour!

Congratulations to little Sterling and his parents Clare & Grant, and all their wonderful family, as we celebrate the first steps of Sterling's journey of faith in Jesus at his baptism on Sunday! 🙏

Thanks especially to his big sister Fern for all her help with the interactive 'What's in the Box?' message! You can watch this part back - on the theme of God's blessing - in this YouTube clip: https://youtu.be/pCsV2oxGGhI

We love to do these kinds of special services - please get in touch if you would like to start this journey of faith in Christ with your little one with a baptism or dedication service 🙏

Or of course if you would like to make this courageous public commitment to Christ as an older child, teenager or adult we would love to hear from you!

Tomorrow we restart our 'Wednesdays in the Word' Bible discussion group working through the Book of Acts! 📖

This is open to everyone, no matter if you are brand new to Bible reading or have been studying Scripture for many years! It's very relaxed and no-one will ever be put on the spot or made to feel silly as we believe everyone has something unique to offer in the perspectives God gives them to share. All welcome any Wednesday 3-4pm in our Maxwell hall, with a few refreshments too :)

This is followed, after a short break, by our Prayer for Revival meeting for 30 mins - 4-4:30pm every Wednesday - as we gently lift the week up before God in prayer, praying over a map of our province. Open or silent prayer both welcome, no pressure and very relaxed 🙏

You are most welcome to come to one or both of these little gatherings! :)

How amazing for Groomsport to be awarded Ireland's Best Kept Small Town 2026! 🎉 A fantastic tribute to the dedicated and devoted volunteers who have enabled our village and its streets to be full of colour, vibrancy and life for everyone - we are so thankful to you all! 🌺🌼

Ireland’s Best Kept Town Competition 2026

Groomsport and Donaghadee were recently recognised among the best-kept places on the island of Ireland, both reaching the final of the Ireland’s Best Kept Town Competition 2026 in the Small Town category.

At the awards ceremony held in Belfast earlier in the summer, Groomsport was announced as the winner of the Ireland’s Best Kept Small Town award, an achievement that celebrates the dedication of local volunteers, community groups and residents who work year-round to enhance and maintain their town.

The competition recognises excellence in areas such as cleanliness, presentation of public spaces, appearance of buildings and care for the natural environment.

Both Groomsport and Donaghadee should be immensely proud of reaching the final stage of this prestigious all-island competition, showcasing the strong community spirit that exists across our local area.

Congratulations to all all involved on this well-deserved success.

One of our church family, Carol Green, is fundraising for the excellent work of Autism NI by doing an abseil of the Europa building (around 51 metres tall) in Belfast on Sun 4 October! In her own words, Carol says,

"I support Autism NI because I want to make a difference, especially in recognition, diagnosis, support and education for autistic girls. My hope is that one day no-one will have to grow up as I did - confused, misunderstood and isolated - when autism in girls and women went entirely unrecognised.

I also want to raise more awareness of autism in adults generally, and to support continued education in society, so that our everyday struggles are better understood and more readily accepted, no matter how well we may have learned to hide or to bear them.

Thank you so much for contributing to this cause that means so much to me, and could help make a life changing difference, especially to as-yet undiagnosed autistic girls and women.

It will be worth tipping myself over the edge of this amazing building if it helps just one girl discover who she is and how she can be herself and be happy in a world full of round holes in which she always feels like the square peg."

What a wonderful vision! We would love to support her by helping her raise loads for this excellent cause! Please share with others...

I’m autistic, and I’m raising money to benefit AUTISM NI, so on Sunday October 4th … Carol Green needs your support for Europa building abseil for Autism NI

For a peaceful end to your day in prayer, psalms and peace, we would love to invite you to any of our two traditional weekly Compline services, each lasting about 20-25 minutes. It's just a little group of us, so not too noisy or crowded.

- Sunday evenings 6pm
(4th Sunday of each month is 6pm Holy Communion)

- Tuesday evenings 7pm

All are very welcome indeed to these or any of our other gatherings!

For a preview of what our Compline services are like, here is a recorded version of one of them:

Our Sunday Fun Club is our special expression of church for all the family - children, parents, grandparents & carers - to come to together through a more relaxed environment of prayer & exploring Jesus' message through the natural language of children: creativity and play 🎉

At the end of last term, for instance, we decorated prayer stones and arranged them in the shape of a cross in the flower bed outside the church halls. (Thank you so much to the amazing local volunteers in our community who have been keeping these local beds tidy over summer too!) 🌱

We begin again next Sunday 6 September, every week 9:30-10:30am Sundays in our church halls, and all children are welcome to come with their parents/carers/grandparents! No need to sign up first, and completely free for everyone - just like any praise gathering here, you are most welcome to just come along any week and give it a go! 🙏
