Someone is always there for you …… what a wonderful thought to have with us this week
In the October '07 Saturday afternoon session of conference, Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin stepped to the pulpit to deliver his remarks.
As he began, his voice started to crack and become weak. With all his might and ALL the energy he could muster, he continued speaking.
Moments later, his body started to shake. Slowly at first, then more rapidly. I remember watching at home, thinking he was going to pass out. I wanted someone to step in and help him!
Someone did step in and helped him.
Who?
Russell M. Nelson.
President Nelson was sitting a few feet away as Elder Wirthlin begin to shake. Because he was a trained medical doctor, he immediately jumped up to support his dear brother. Gently and slowly, he reached underneath his suit coat to feel the beating of his heart. Elder Wirthlin was literally in the BEST hands in that exact moment.
His brother was there to support him.
What was Elder Wirthlin speaking about? His talk was called, "The Great Commandment." He spoke powerfully about loving and serving one another.
As Elder Wirthlin spoke powerful testimony about love and service, President Nelson was showing us by his example, those words in action.
Nothing was ever said about this moment. We all witnessed it and could tell something special had just happened.
Fast forward to the October 2017 Saturday Afternoon Session. Elder Andersen stood to give his remarks. In it he said the following:
"How kind of the Lord to impress upon President Russell M. Nelson right at the end of this morning’s session to quickly leave the building, skip his lunch, and hurry to the bedside of Elder Hales, where he could arrive and be there, his quorum president, with the angelic Mary Hales as Elder Hales graduated from mortality."
After the morning session, President Nelson immediately and without fanfare, rushed to Elder Hales' side to support him as he passed to his heavenly home.
Once again, President Nelson stood with his brother in a time of need.
A Powerful example for us all!
