Something for the journey!
Family life at times can be such a great blessing to us, and yet, there are times when family life can be difficult and demanding, and even the best of families have to face trials and troubles! And many of those trials are difficult to handle! How do we cope when it seems that our marriage is in trouble and despite years of life and devotion, there seems to be no way out of our situation! How do we cope when our children chose a different pathway in life to ours, and despite everything we have taught them, there are times when we don’t understand their choices in life! The truth is, that the list is endless, and life is such that we all have to face issues in life, and in family life, when the burden seems too heavy to carry!
God’s servant David found himself facing a difficult family situation! His family life was in big trouble and it seemed as if he was losing control! And sadly, David brought some of this on himself! He had an affair with Bathsheba and the child born to them died and it affected him greatly! His son Absalom killed his half brother and then later turned against David and sought to steal the throne from under David’s feet! David was forced into exile and was in danger of losing his throne! Here was a man whose life was filled with chaos, shame, division and crisis!
And David did the only thing that he could do, he sought the face of God and he entreated God in prayer! His experiences in life had taught him that there were things that he couldn’t control, and that he needed to leave them with God! He knew that God was bigger that all his problems! He knew that God was able to do what he couldn’t do! He knew that when he couldn’t change his circumstances, that he could rest in an unchanging God!
Child of God, I don’t know where life finds you today, but I do know this, that life is not always simple or straight forward! And there are times when we need to step back; and when we need to understand our own inability; and when we need to trust God, even and especially when we can see no answer to the problem; and when we can see no way out of our situation! Now God may not remove the problem, but He will always give us the Grace to bear the burden! I can understand why David says in - Psalm 34:6: - This poor man man cried, and the Lord delivered him out of all his troubles!
And God can do the same for us! Is life difficult and demanding at the moment? Does everything seem to be a battle that knocks the heart out of you? Have you felt at times that there is no way out of your trials and troubles? Well look to God today and remember that He is:
Bigger than all my problems,
Bigger than all my fears;
God is bigger than any mountain,
That I can or cannot see!
God is bigger than all my questions,
Bigger than anything!
God is bigger than any mountain,
That I can or cannot see!
Have a good week, and remember that whatever we are facing, we can trust God! He will not do anything to hurt us or harm us, and even the most difficult of circumstances can lead us closer to Him!
