Something for the journey!

George Muller was a Christian evangelist and one of the founders of the Plymouth Brethren movement! Later during a split, his group were called the Open Brethren! Muller also had a heart for orphans, and it is said that during his lifetime, he cared for over 10,000 orphans! He provided for their education, and he established one hundred and seventeen schools that offered a Christian education to more than 120,000 people! And one of the secrets of Muller’s life, was that he never gave up! One day he began to pray for the conversion of five of his friends! After a number of months, one of those friends came to the Lord! Ten years later, two more were converted to Christ! It took another twenty five years before the fourth man was saved, and he prayed until his death for his fifth friend to get saved! He never gave up, and after his death, and after his funeral had taken place, the last of his five friends was saved! Muller never gave up!

And yet child of God, we know from experience that sometimes it is much easier to give up, then it is to keep going! And I can understand that! The Christian pathway is not without its problems! Our Christian lives can so often be faced with disappointments and discouragements! The weight of our spiritual battles can easily take their toll on us! And under those circumstances, it is much easier to give up than it is to go on!

And maybe today that’s where you are in your spiritual journey! You have had a bad run of events in your life and they have caused you great anxiety! You have been let down by others and you have said to yourself - what’s the point! Maybe you are in the midst of deep waters today and you are finding it very hard to cope! Well child of God, if that is where you are I encourage you to try to keep going! And to keep looking up because your Heavenly Father knows how you feel and whatever you are facing! He is aware of every step that we take, and every trial that we face! And we can lean hard upon Him, and we can draw strength and comfort from His Word!

Remember today the words of the prophet Isaiah who spoke to God’s people at a difficult time in their history! Fear not, for I have redeemed thee; I have called thee by your name! You are mine! What a wonderful thing to know that God knows us by name; and that He knows every detail about our lives, whether they are great or small! And even if life is tough today and it might be, God says to us - I will be with you! Maybe we are in a difficult place just now; maybe we are in the midst of deep waters; maybe we are passing through the deepest valley we have every had to experience! Well God says to us, don’t fear, and don’t forget that I am with you, always! And it is His presence and His peace that can bring us through the fiercest storms of life! David, Daniel, the Apostle Paul and others proved that in their experiences in life, and you and I will prove it too, so don’t give up! Listen to these precious words!

I have a friend, a faithful friend; And Jesus is His name;
He will not leave, He stands by me; My Shepherd He remains!

I have a friend, a mighty friend; And Jesus is His name;
I shall not fear, He holds me near; His strength will keep me safe!

Have a good week! It might seem easier today to just give up, but keep looking up and keep going on with God!
