The summer holiday begins. Lovely to have Dennington Primary School in church for the Leavers Service. My pleasure to present year 6s with bibles given by Dennington Consolidated Charities. I loved hearing year 6s sharing their memories of all that has been good about their time at Dennington Primary.

Today we celebrate the Birth of John the Baptist, a child promised by God and born to Elizabeth and Zechariah in their later years.

John grew to be a voice in the wilderness, preparing the way for Jesus and calling people to repentance, hope, and renewal. He points beyond himself to something and someone greater — to the coming of Christ, the light of the world.

As we celebrate John today, may we also find the courage to be voices of truth in our own time. And may we, like him, point always to Christ.
