Unfortunately blue/green algae has been in some areas of Bates Wood Lake.
Some blue-green algae can produce toxins, some do not. However, exposure to any blue-green algae blooms can cause health effects in people and animals when water with blooms is touched, swallowed, or when airborne droplets are inhaled. Exposure to high levels of blue-green algae and their toxins can cause diarrhea, nausea or vomiting; skin, eye or throat irritation; and allergic reactions or breathing difficulties.

As a precaution do not let your dogs or other animals enter the water - wild swimming should also be avoided.

Covid-19 Update - Closure

To All,

In line with the announcement made by the Prime Minister last night, it is with regret that we have to announce that all fishing on club waters is prohibited with immediate effect.
This is a sad, difficult and worrying time for all of us. In the coming days and weeks it is essential that we all do our utmost to prevent the virus spreading further.

We will continue to monitor the situation and advise of any changes as they occur. In the meantime please convey this message to those who do not have access to emails and/or social media.

We have just completed re-stocking of Bates Wood lake with over 20,000 fish (yes - twenty thousand!!) which have been supplied to the club by the Environment Agency.
The fish mainly comprise of bream, roach and roach/bream hybrids but also included a few perch and gudgeon. These will bring a new dimension to the angling experience at the lake.
Our thanks go to Andy Eaves - Fisheries Technical Officer - and all those concerned at the Environment Agency for organising the fish re-location.
