Self-control is one of the solutions to distraction. Distraction is a tool in the hands of the enemy.

Self-control is part of the fruit of the Spirit. You need to be filled with the Holy Spirit to have self-control. It is one of the hardest traits to achieve because it means denying yourself some pleasures.

Self-control is a lifelong endeavour that you must not lack to attain greater heights.

“If you know where you’re going, you don’t need the crowd.”

Learn to control your thoughts, words, appetite and time. When we exercise self-control, it pleases God.

Steps to exercising self-control:
1. Keep the Word of God in your heart – Psalm 119:11
2. Take heed according to God’s Word – Psalm 119:9
3. Be intentional about your spiritual life – 1 Timothy 4:8
4. Study to show yourself approved – 2 Timothy 2:15

The best legacy we can give our children is Jesus.

“Your future will be shaped by whatever holds your attention today.”

The question is not whether you are focused, but what you are focused on, because whatever holds your attention determines what you become.

Distraction moves you away from your purpose, no matter how fast you are running. Vision can come from God, but audacity must come from us.

Set a target, put a time to it and apply discipline. Focus requires saying no, not only choosing what to do, but also what not to do.

Be intentional about your spiritual life. Remain steadfast in faith, prayer and God’s Word. Set your purpose, have a target and do not pause your purpose for anything.

“My sheep hear My voice…and they follow Me.”

We need to hear from God so that we can be led by Him, avoid following strangers and establish our sonship in Christ.

To hear God’s voice, we must be born again, cultivate a regular time of devotion, pray and study His Word. We must listen to the Word, share the Word and continually ask God what He is saying, because hearing from Him is progressive.

May we grow in knowing His voice and faithfully following wherever He leads.

On this week's sermon excerpts, premised on an encounter with the Word of God; the core question was what word are you standing on?

Life may shake you, situations may change and challenges may arise but God’s Word remains Spirit and Life. When received and believed, it brings salvation, deliverance, transformation and direction.

Jesus is revealed through His Word: the more of the Word you know, the more of Jesus you know.

This week, labour to find a Word from God that speaks to your present situation. Hold on to it. Stand on it. Declare it. Allow the Word to locate you because your testimony begins with God’s Word.
