St Nicholas' Summer Fete was on Saturday 29th June. Following the opening ceremony conducted by the Earl of Arundel, Arundel CE School got the fete off to a wonderful start with some fantastic singing. It was a happy day, blessed with fine weather and the beautiful setting of Arundel's fine 14th century parish church.

It was an honour to take part in the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day - to remember before God the soldiers, sailors and airmen who were killed on that day, and in the days that followed; those who were wounded physically, or scarred mentally; and the civilians caught up in the darkness and terror of battle; and to hear from the few remaining veterans of D-Day who continue to share their stories of courage and sacrifice in the cause of peace, liberty and justice.

On Sunday, 12th May at 3 pm at Tortington's delightful 12th century church, John Godfrey, an engaging and knowledgeable local historian, will give an illustrated overview of the war years and their impact on the local area. Admission is free but donations to the work of the Friends of Tortington would be much appreciated.

The talk will be followed by refreshments and a chance to enjoy the building and churchyard. All this leading up to, at 4 pm, a performance by the Barbershop Quartet, with some of the music reflecting the mid-1900s. Again, there is no charge for attending the event, but donations will be gratefully received.
