Today Archbishop Eamon joined the parish community of Saint Peter’s, Lurgan, in the Diocese of Dromore, for an International Mass celebrating the richness and diversity of the local community.

Following recent violence and intimidation directed towards migrant communities, including in Portadown in the Archdiocese of Armagh, Archbishop Eamon spoke of the need to reject racism, fear and hatred, and to recognise the image of God in every person.

He reminded those gathered that Ireland knows the story of migration deeply, and that our Christian calling is to welcome, support and walk with those who now come to live, work, pray and build community among us.

This International Mass offered a hopeful and faith-filled sign of people from many nations, languages and cultures standing together before the same Lord, sharing the same Eucharist, and recognising one another as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Today we celebrate the feast of St Anthony of Padua, a great preacher of the Gospel and a gentle friend to those who feel lost, burdened or in need.

St Anthony reminds us that faith is not only something we speak about, but something we live with humility, kindness and love for the poor. May his example help us to seek Christ more deeply and to bring his compassion to those around us.

St Anthony of Padua, pray for us.

Prayer

St Anthony, faithful servant of God,
you preached the Gospel with wisdom,
loved the poor with tenderness,
and helped many people find their way back to Christ.

Pray for us today.
Help us to find what we have lost,
not only in our homes,
but in our hearts:
peace, hope, faith and trust in God.

May we, like you,
speak with kindness,
serve with generosity,
and keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.

Amen.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus sends out the seventy-two with a simple message:

“Peace to this house.”

Mission begins with humility and peace. Our efforts to share the Good News are more effective when we carry the gentle presence of Christ into our homes, parishes, schools and communities.

Today, can we each reflect on how we might become people of peace and remind others that the kingdom of God is very near.

As the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus comes to a close we pray…

Heart of Jesus, burning with love for me,
inflame my heart with burning love for thee.

Jesus, meek and humble of heart,
make my heart like your heart.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.
Amen

May the heart of Jesus transform each of us and our world.

“Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest.”

In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks tenderly to all who feel tired, weighed down or stretched beyond themselves.

He does not ask us to pretend we are strong. He does not ask us to carry everything alone, instead He invites us to come to him with a simplicity of heart.

The wisdom of God is often revealed not to those who think they have all the answers, but to those who are open, humble and childlike before him.

May we bring our burdens to Christ today and learn from his gentle and humble heart.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us that he has not come to abolish the Law and the Prophets, but to complete them.

Jesus does not sweep away the story of God’s covenant with his people but brings it to fulfilment. In him, the commandments are not simply rules to be followed from a distance. but become a way of love, mercy, faithfulness and truth.

The Gospel reminds us that even the smallest acts of goodness matter. The quiet choice to forgive. The effort to speak honestly. The care we show to someone who is struggling. The faith we pass on by example.

To follow Christ is not to take the easy road, but to allow his word to shape our lives, our relationships and our witness.
